Just went to a checkup and they did a quickie ultrasound (as they do every time I go in). For the last couple of months, both babies have been positioned head down - in fact. when I was in the hospital last week, Twin A was jammed waaaaay down into my pelvis, head engaged and everything - my doctors figured that by this point the little guys were in their final positions, especially since they're pretty much out of room to move around so either of them flipping into another position was considered unlikely.
Anyway, at the ultrasound today, both twins are suddenly transverse. WTF, little dudes??? You've been in perfect position for months and now, weeks or even just days from game day, you guys suddenly decide to change? And not just a little insignificant change, but to go sideways? (Although it does explain the sudden change in how I feel their movement, which had me confused for the last couple of days.)
I have a detailed ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow so it will be interesting to see if they're still transverse then, but I'm not really expecting it to change overnight - like I said, at this stage it's fairly stunning that they've managed to shift positions at all considering how limited the space is.
All I can think is that the walking I've been doing to try to bring on labor somehow shook them up enough that they shifted (I've been kept fairly inactive for the last 6 weeks or so - all the activity might have been a bit startling for them). Guess I'll be doing more walking and some pelvic exercises to try encourage them to get back into position. ![]()
Re: BR: well THAT was unexpected (no, I'm not in labor...)
I really have no idea how they managed it - most of the time twins don't move past the positions they get into at around 33/34 weeks, so this is REALLY late in the game for this kind of a change! But like you said, if they did it once then they can do it again, right? At least that's what I'm hoping...
How are you doing, btw? As you know, I'm FB stalking you in hopes of Baby Lola808 turning up, but how are you feeling?
That IS weird!!! Hopefully they're just little pranksters and just wanted to confuse their mama... now that they were successful, hopefully they'll move back into position.
I have a question - probably a stupid one but oh well, I figure I'd ask - how do you plan on naming your twins? What I mean is do you plan on naming the first born W and the second one D or vice versa? I suppose it wouldn't help to look at them and see which one fits which name better being that they are identical. Just thought I'd ask... hopefully that's not too dumb of a question.
Not a dumb question at all! Actually, I asked Ben this exact same thing ages ago because I wasn't sure how we'd do it either.
We decided to do it just as you said: the firstborn will be W and the second will be D. We could wait and see if a particular name fits a particular boy better (even identical twins can look different thanks to different birth weights, etc., although ours are so similar in size that I don't think this will be as applicable for us), but you know me...I'm a planner and I like things to be worked out in advance lol.
On a slightly related note, John just found out the other day that he was born breech and I kid you not, he actually has a grin on his face when he tells me this (multiple times a day!)... If your twins don't turn, wonder if they'll be bragging to their wives one day how they were transverse. =P
*snort* Ben was a later-in-life 'whoopsie!' baby. He likes to brag to me that he "beat an IUD to be conceived." Honestly, the things guys can find to be proud of...
Bella was head down and then transverse and then the day my water broke they did an ultrasound and she was head down again. I felt a difference in movement too and wondered if she'd moved.
I'm hoping your little guys will move back around too. Keep up the exercise and maybe you'll freak them out and they'll flip again
Also sleep while you can, I mean we're going on 8 months of not much sleep so I'm just throwing it out there to get as much as you can NOW!!
On a side note my crack whore (oh did I just type that?!) SIL is preggo with twins and she swears her dr said since they are in the same sack she HAS to have a C-section. Do you know if this is true? I believe about 1/16 or less of what comes out of her mouth... that's a story for a different day!
Hee hee, this made me laugh! Those boys are full of mischief already!
You've got some special pirates in there! Doing their own thing already. =D
I'm feeling okay, just really anxious for something to happen. For a while, I felt so ready and confident, but the longer this drags on, the more I'm like "just get him/her out already!!!!" Lucky we've always been "flexible" with the birth preferences.
Induction is tomorrow, so cross your fingers for us!
Crossing my fingers, toes, arms and legs for you...I'm all twisted up like a pretzel!!!!

Not true at all unless she has the oldest doctor on the planet who believes in doing c-sections anytime there are twins present (regardless of what position they're in, etc.).
For example, mine are in the same sac, and my doctors have repeatedly assured me that as long as Twin A (the one closest to the exit) is in a head down position, we can try for a v-birth. If Twin B moves into a bad position after Twin A has left the building (very possible since he'd be going, "Oh wow, look at all this room, I'm gonna stretch out!"), they would still try to maneuver him into a better position for a regular delivery before going for a c-section - and most of the time, it's successful.
Although...are they in both the same gestational AND amniotic sac? If so, then yeah, her doctor might want to do a c-section just because it can get pretty dangerous with cords getting entangled. But then, if they're sharing both sacs there's a fairly high incidence of mortality before you even get to labor.
I was looking at spinningbabies last night, but I'm not sure how much help it will be...they DO have info on twins, but their section on transverse twins says this:
That's it.
No links, no info, nothing lol. I'm thinking they can't come up with anything either...
I was going to ask the exact same thing!!!
