Stupid Capital One

They just put a hold on our credit card.  Why you ask?  Because they are questioning some online purchases.  Ok, that's great, why don't you just call me to question them rather than restricting our account?  The funny part is, we are nowhere NEAR our credit limit (seriously, we're at around 10% of our limit and we pay it off every month - we solely  use it for online shopping and gas).  Ugh.  I called and the woman wouldn't help me until I talk to MH to verify he tried to use the card this morning and it was denied.  Well, I'd love to call him but he's not in cell service range right now so I can't.

Seriously?  They can't call to check if it's serious enough they want to restrict it?

Re: Stupid Capital One

  • They should have called if there was "questionable" purchases recently...but frequently credit card companies just put a hold on the account and you don't find out until you go to use the card and it's declined.

  • So I called again and the questionable purchase?  Me buying something from Nordstrom.  And MH buying gas at a gas station in Kentucky.  But apparently MH was denied a purchase earlier today (for gas) and I have to verify that was him and since he's out of range, I can't verify that.  Once I do verify it, they will get rid of the restriction.  Sigh.  It's not a huge deal that the card is restricted, it's just annoying that I find out by logging in (something I do almost daily) and for things that are valid purchases.

  • Ok, I finally got it fixed.  They were concerned because MH bought gas in KY at the same time I bought something online, therefore the card *had* to be stolen.  (MH and I have cards with the same numbers on them apparently).

  • That's how our Capital One cards are too - we both have the same card numbers.  My new one just came in the mail last night and Mike was sure it was some kind of mistake since it was the same number as his.
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • sort of the same - we have a checking account at a bank in AK that we leave open, I have a debit/ check card for it, and I wanted to transfer some money to my bank here in RI - being responsible I called and asked what my cash withdraw limit was - she told me $500 / day - fine, well I had already pulled out some that day - so I tried to make a withdraw for the balance. Well of course the "fee" is included in the overall amount, so I had to try a second time - because i tried twice they flaged my card - they asked if I could come into my local branch, ugh, I had to spend two hours on the phone with them so they wouldn't void my card - since I'm not in state they would have to mail me a new one - which they have my RI address on file so they know I'm not in state - it was just another thing to deal with yesterday.
