And we've turned back the clock again in VA.

Our new Governor has angered the masses for the 2nd time this year.  First it was when he decided not to continue with past Governor's practices of stating that state employees would not be discriminated against based on sexual orientation.  After VA was turned into a laughing stock by John Stewart and others, he changed his mind.

Now he's dedicated April as Confederate History Month.  Not Civil War History month with any mention of slavery, but instead we have a month honoring the Confederacy and everything that goes with that.  Now, my family history is ripe with Confederate generals from Virgina.  I'm sure my ancestors had slaves.  Do I admit that I'm proud to be a Virginian and proud to be from the South?  Yes.  Do I think we could celebrate the Confederacy?  No.  I think it's offensive and divisive.

The comments online from our local newspaper are among the most racist things I've ever read.  It's appalling.

  • Wow.  Way to step back.  They will be right up their with the Mississippi peeps soon.

So unfortunate that with all the progress that has been made that there are places and people that are allowed to make these sorts of decisions that allow us to make fools of our states and our country.

  • You are one lucky gal... living in VA with all that carp going on... (heavy sarcasm)

Some people just don't get it... you know?

  • Ugh, that's bad.  I'm all for people learning history, good or bad, but to dedicate a celebration of Confederate history?  Nope, sorry, not cool.  I always found McDonnell and his ideas scary during the campaign...and now he's just proving himself to be such.a.winner ConfusedNo

  • What really gets me is that his family is Irish-American and from Pennsylvania!  They don't even have Confederate ancestry.  He's pandering to his racist VA good ol' boys who got him elected.

  • What's scary is that there are so many people that still hold that view.
  • Wow Indifferent. Sounds like your government leaders are as swell as the ones here in SC.... I feel your pain.
  • Good to know racism is alive and well in the US . . . ugh.  Makes me grateful I live in California.  Oh . . . wait . . . they discriminate here, too.  (Prop 8)

Can I just buy an island and move there so I don't have to live amongst such BS?
