Sun spots / skin discoloration and laser treatments????

Hi ladies-

In the past few months I?ve noticed that a few sunspots (brown spots)/skin discolorations on my forehead seem to look more pronounced (apparently that?s what years of going to the tanning beds & lathering on suntan oil can do!  Uggghhh!!).  Anyway ? I went to a dermatologist last week who told me that it was nothing to be alarmed about, but that it could definitely be treated.  He recommended a Limelight Laser Photo Facial treatment???does anyone have any experience with that specific one or any LASER treatment in general????

I?m fairly certain I want to do it as it appears that the results can be dramatic.  However, I thought it might be wise to get feedback on here as well as all of the other research I?ve done.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Re: Sun spots / skin discoloration and laser treatments????

  • lasering can be very effective for sun spots, discolouration etc....but here are a few things to consider-1.  do not do this treatment in the summertime as it thins out skin and makes it more sensative-this should be done late fall, early winter (btw do not trust a derm who tells you otherwise)  2.  if you commit to this you also will need to commit to heavy usage of sunscreen on a daily very regular basis-otherwise no point in doing the treatment.  laser treated skin is always more sensitive.  3.  go for least powerful treatment especially if you are younger-I live out in LOs Angeles the land of cosmetic surgery and we see people all the time who have lasered too much and end up with skin that is too thin and waxy looking

    just my tips

  • Alix has VERY good advice, so I'll just add - have you looked into something like whitening/brightening cream? I'm thinking one like this - I've never tried any so I can't vouch for results, but that one has good reviews. It's not cheap, but might be worth a shot before you pony up for laser treatments. Smile
  • I second both pp's. Laser makes your skin super sensitive to the sun, so I'd definitely wait until the winter. And definitely use sunscreen daily while you're going through the treatment. In the meantime (summertime) you can use the brightening creams but also use sunscreen whenever you use those as well. And I'd even suggest using them at night instead of in the morning since they also make your skin more sensitive to the sun. I personally have used serums from Bobbi Brown and Lancome and I like both, although I loved the BB one most, except that it got discontinued. But they came out with a new line of brightening products just last month, so I assume they're just as good, although I haven't personally tried the new line yet. Chanel used to also have a brightening serum that was my favorite out of all 3 of these brands that I've tried, but it had been discontinued a long time ago. Other than BB, I don't know if any of the other 2 brands carry any other brightening products anymore since I've been avoiding skincare/cosmetics since I got pg =P GL!
