a facebook baby boom!

I have quite a few facebook buddies and they are people that aren't always in the first ring of friends/family etc.  They're people I went to highschool or college with but don't necessarily see all the time, distant relatives, family friends, etc.  In the last 48 hours, 3 have had babies.  That is a lot!  And there are few imminent births that I wouldn't be surprised if it happened before the end of the week.  Holy cow - that is a lot of babies all the sudden.  I'm thrilled for them all but my goodness!  Must've been a slow late summer!  :)

Re: a facebook baby boom!

  • Geez!  That IS a lot!  I have had several, but over the past few months, not days!  I know I'm "that age" where friends start having babies, but I totally blame the recession. :)

  • Oh wow that is a baby boom!  I've noticed on FB that there are a lot of birthdays in April...guess it's always a slow late summer...

  • It so weird seeing people I went to high school and college with having babies.  Sometimes it scares me (i.e. *gasp* She's raising a child? good god!), sometimes it's endearing (i.e. Awwwww!!! ___ is a daddy!).    I enjoy the baby pictures, though!
  • It's that time of year I guess.  I have 3 on my friend list that are due any day.  One of them also has an older sister who is due next month.
  • DH, MIL, and FIL all are within a week of eachother at the end of April too which I think is really odd.  Hubby is day 1, MIL is day 3, FIL is day 7.  In my family, we're all clustered at the end of the year but no two birthdays are in the same month.  Dad in October, Sister in November, Mom in December, me in Jan, Brother in law in Feb... and then Hubby and baby sister off in in April and May all by themselves.  :)

My sister who is going to be a doctor in a few weeks said the same thing!  She thinks that the boom is because with the recession people aren't going "out" for fun.  They're staying in and having "fun" instead.  :)

On NPR yesterday they were saying that the US birth rate is down 2% since 2007, and they were saying that THAT was due to the recession! Apparently the states with the highest unemployment and highest home forclosure rates also had the biggest drops in birth rates - basically people can't afford babies right now!
