Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?

  • I'll play.  Can I be added?  I'm due October 7th.

    (1) What week are you in?  14 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling pretty good both physically and mentally after our good report yesterday.  I guess our milestone was finding out our little GIRL looks healthy.  Such a blessing!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Apriil 15th.  Just a normal appt.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? I bought a bib today that said I'm the Little Sister.  It is adorable!

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?  Yes and we have.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.)  Getting the toys out.  He is working on getting used to them.

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

    Mamas:
If you are BFing, what sort of 'diet' did you follow for the first 3 months or so? Any foods you avoided or ate more of to try to increase your milk supply?

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 36w, 3d - TIME TO COME OUT, BOYS!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm actually feeling pretty good right now, I think mostly because I'm now allowed to want labor to start. Stick out tongue I don't know if any of the natural induction methods actually work, but at least they're keeping me distracted...

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? It was today, actually, but I rescheduled it for next week. It was just a checkup with my gestational diabetes doctor, and I know that everything is fine (no need to adjust my insulin or anything). I woke up last night with some contractions twice (which, frustratingly, are totally gone now!) so I decided to reschedule with my doc for next week - I'll check in with him then if these kids still haven't made an appearance.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? That contractions can come and go (see above). I guess I kinda thought that once they started, they'd stay fairly regular even if they didn't get stronger right away. Nope! Instead they're just a big ole tease...

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? Our changing table. We got it secondhand from someone who works at the same company - it was still a little early to be shopping for furniture, but was too good of a deal to pass up on!

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? I wouldn't use it if it was a sibling, otherwise if I really, REALLY loved the name, I'd probably just go ahead and use it. Well, I also might not if it was a cousin, just because my family is very tightly knit so it's not like it would be a person they'd never see.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) Nope, not really. Both of our dogs love children - especially Korben, who goes frantic whenever there is a baby or toddler in the house (he'll whine and cry and carry on until he's allowed to sniff them and then lay protectively at their feet, staring at them lovingly, and will refuse to budge) - so we're not really worried about them. Ben will bring home something the babies have worn when I'm in the hospital though, just for the dogs to get used to the new smell. The cats...well, I don't know if there's any real way you CAN prepare a cat lol!

I'll play.  Can I be added?  I'm due October 7th.

    Absolutely! Yes

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  18 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? feeling good, but definitely getting bigger!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  April 29 - it could be the BIG ultrasound, but we are sticking with Team Green

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?  how hard my belly can feel...and then not so hard.  Last night my belly felt so hard & then today not so much!  IDK weird!

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby?  I haven't bought anything yet, but even if it is not the 1st thing I buy, it will be one of them...the Lorax by Dr. Seuss...I want baby to grow up to be a tree hugger just like mama! :)

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?  definitely depending upon the relationship...if it is an acquaintance, I would use it, but if it was anyone I would see on a regular basis, I would find something else.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a  baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) only a cat for us, so not much to do, but I will have DH bring something of the baby's home for Satchmo to get used to the smell

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? what do you wish you would have known going into the preg. that you didn't know?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 7 weeks on Fri.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Jack is smiling like crazy now - love it!  He also makes the saddest little pouty face that makes me want to cry :(  Had my 6 week appt. last friday, everything is great.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nothing until Jack's 2mo. appt.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? DH bought a newborn beanie with his college logo, I bought cute cloth diapers.  First big purchases - DH's parents bought the crib and mattress and my gparents bought the BOB stroller right around week 12.

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? well John/Jack is pretty common and are family names, so it wouldn't have mattered.  Our other boy/girl names considered - I might rethink it if I knew someone IRL that was considering them.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) no pets

Any foods you avoided or ate more of to try to increase your milk supply? nope - just continue to eat healthy, want to get lots of vitamins from real foods (veggies/fruits) .  Jack hasn't showed any reactions to what I eat but I have cut back on my dairy intake a bit just in case since it seems to be the biggest offender.  I have started drinking coffee again and have an occasional beer.  No decrease concers as of yet (still having the occassional oversupply/hardness) but I do eat oatmeal - not instant - a lot just because I like it.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

she's 5 months old in one week

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

loving the nicer weather, it definitely helps my mood since i am able to go out w/her and enjoy the weather :)

she is sleeping w/o her swaddle now.  she also insists on belly sleeping now. i put her to bed on her back and in the morning i find her on her tummy. so after 3 nights of this i've given up and just put her to sleep on her tummy now..... surprisingly, she seems to sleep a lot better b/c she has gone from sleeping 5-6 hrs/night (before doing a dream feed and going back to sleep) to sleeping about 8-9 hrs before waking!! yay!! this is huge b/c i feel more normal now :)

she's also gotten really good at standing (with support) now

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

in one month for her 6 month check up and shots

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

that babysteals has a secret steal page too! you can find it through their blog which is linked from the FB page!

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby?

    dresser/changing table from craigslist

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?

depends on the relationship and how often we see them

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.)

no, we just let them smell an article of clothing of hers when we brought her home, before letting them see her. they were all fine. the dog loves her and the cats are scared of her :)

    LOTS of water.  all.the.time

otherwise i was just eating whenever i could find the time. i wasn't on any kind of diet and felt lucky to even get a meal in.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

we went to the arboretum today :) i also have to show off the pretty hair clip i made for her using supplies purchased from JoAnn, it's the first DIY project i've done in quite some time.  my mom gave me the idea to get her a white hat and put head bands around it to accessorize it instead of getting different colored/patterned hats :)

soooooo true!!  I don't remember what it feels like to NOT be thirsty and I drink so much water ALL the time.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 24 weeks, 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  I guess I "popped," as they say!  It's kind of cool to be showing a little bit more, but my poor back!  I've had back trouble my whole life (since falling 15 feet onto my back when I was 13), but this is awful!  I'm having trouble sleeping due to waking up with lower back pain.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nothing until May 3rd for reg. appt. and rhogam shot

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?  That buying baby clothes is absolute irrisistible to me!  I'm trying really hard not to buy clothes, since I know that's what to mostly expect for gifts, but it's so hard when they're so darn cute!

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? Oddly enough, it was a Beaba Babycook.  Only because we had a gift card for Williams-Sonoma from Christmas and I wanted to use it on that.  The day we found it it was a boy, I bought a little blue striped sleeper, and Dan bought a sponge baseball and tiny mitt (even though we're both not interested in sports at all, he still felt the need to get this for his son!)

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? Honestly (and no offense), if it was someone on here, I'd probably still use it (after talking to you about it), since I love you guys, but it's not like we see each other all the time!  Stick out tongue  If it was a family member or close friend, I probably wouldn't use it if they had expressed strong interest in it for their child (and I thought they actually might have a child to name).

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) Hmmmm....I guess I need to start thinking about this, huh?!  I never thought of a CD of crying, but it's not a bad idea.

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 11w4d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I am feeling great. 11 weeks and no m/s :-). I am not on 2nd tri yet but I am starting to feel like I am getting my energy back. We had an NT scan (1st tri screening) last Tuesday and saw the baby. Everything was great. Strong HB of 163 bpm :-).

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 12 wk appoinment with OB on Tuesday. Our next u/s won't be until 20 wks (i think?)

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? That there may be some truth to sympathy pregnancy? :-P. I was feeling lighty lightheaded last Saturday. A few minutes later DH said he's feelin nauseous and dizzy too lol.

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? Haven't bought anything yet. Trying to keep myself from buying anything until I've read the Baby Bargains book.

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? If it's a close friend or family yes but just an acquiantance no.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.). We have no pets.

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 30w1d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? finally found out GD results and they were good:)  Also noticed some stretch marks around my belly button over the weekendCrying

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? went yesterday for my regular 2 week check and then the next one is the 21st.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? actually I think it was diapers...I have been trying to buy some all along so we have a nice supply started when he gets here

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? yes if it was family or a close friend we would not use it.  The first girls name we came up with we found out a little later was MH half brothers daughters name so we threw it out also threw out all the names of the stepkids friends

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) I am sending a blanket home with MH before we leave the hospital but I am wondering if that will be enough

So I read long ago, when I was bringing my baby home, that one way to introduce the baby is by having your pets "find" the baby, making it seem more special to them.  "Look what I brought home to you mama!"  I put my daughter in her carseat on our front porch and then let our dachsund out to go to her.  She was curious and pretty much just sniffed around for awhile and then forgot all about her!

Ugh!  Me, too, unfortunately.  I have two so far.  I've named them Statler and Waldorf (after the two grumpy guys from the Muppets) in hopes that they won't bring friends.  And yes, I know this is wishful thinking at its finest!

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  He will be 5 months old tomorrow!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm good - had a slew of medical things lately, still seeing specialists, most notably the development of hypothyroidism.  Apparently it's not uncommon to develop after pregnancy.

LO is good too.  He's starting to roll over in his sleep onto his tummy.  He can roll over now, but doesn't do it that often.  He'd much rather be upright than rolling around on the floor somewhere!  He still has reflux issues, which we take Prevacid for.  Still can't take more than 4-5oz at a time.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  6 month checkup w/ shots

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? www.kidsteals.com and babycheapskate.blogspot.com

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? I don't remember!  We had a lot of stuff given/loaned to us.  Maybe the crib was the first thing we bought? Looks like we paid for the birth class we took and then bought the paint to do the nursery before we got the crib and other furniture.

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)? That's hard, I don't know.  I think it wouldn't matter as long as it wasn't someone my kid would see often.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.)  no pets

    Mamas:
If you are BFing, what sort of 'diet' did you follow for the first 3 months or so? Any foods you avoided or ate more of to try to increase your milk supply?
    I only BF'd for a week.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    8 weeks

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Kaya went on her first plane ride - we were in Hawaii for 11 days.  She did great on the plane and slept the whole way there, except for waking once to nurse.  On the way back she was a little more up but I just nursed her and she fell asleep.  She also slept so much better when we were in HI - her longest stretch ever was 5 hours.  Now that we're back, she's back to getting up every 2-3 hours.  =(

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Her 2 month check up is next week.

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

That having an infant bathtub is a must.  We didn't have one when we were in Hawaii so we had to just bathe her in the kitchen sink.  But I refuse to actually let any part of her touch the sink so one of us had to hold her and the other had to soap her.  It was quite difficult.

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby?

I bought a 3 pack of UH logo onesies.  Good thing, because now they don't have them anymore.  See photo below.

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?

Probably, because I'd want something different.  I want names that no one we know  has named their kids or no one in our family is named.  I made an exception with Kaya's middle name - it's my friend's middle name.  Not as big a deal.  And I really like the name Paige and would consider using it even though it's my cousin's daughter's middle name.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.)

We didn't really do anything.  Our dog is super loving so I figured it wouldn't be an issue.  So far it hasn't been...except I think she's a little sad that she doesn't get much attention anymore.

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future?

    Mamas:
If you are BFing, what sort of 'diet' did you follow for the first 3 months or so? Any foods you avoided or ate more of to try to increase your milk supply?

I've been eating oatmeal for breakfast every day and I drank Mother's Milk Tea to try to boost my supply.  I try to avoid broccoli because it seems to make her more fussy, but otherwise I just eat whatever.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!

    HA! Thank you!

MIL is trying to convince me that the infant bathtub I bought is a waste of money and we should just use the sink. I'm not opposed to sinks, but ours are kind of odd - they're more like troughs, long and quite shallow. They might work for a month or two, but then there is no way they'll be big enough. I've just been smiling and nodding whenever MIL brings it up...

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    10 weeks and 3 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling anxious now that I am back to work (in the office on Tu/Th).  Libby has completely refused the bottle since last Tuesday!  I got my excess Lipase issues worked out and she was back on the bottle and had two on Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th.  Then Wednesday she refused it but I was home and was able to feed her.  And then Thursday (I was work) she did again. and held out from 6:30 am until J drove her up to my office where I nursed her in the car around noon.  Then she held out until I got home around 3 pm. We tried the bottle again all weekend with no luck.  So back to work on Tuesday and she refused the bottle at 9 am and waited for me to come home at lunch and held out until I got home for the day at 3:45 pm.  She melts-down and is hysterical and I feel so bad for her and my mom and J trying to console her.  We had introduced cup feeding and she's taken to it, somwhat.  She took 1 oz by cup, on two separate occassions on Wednesday and again today.  So at least she's getting something while I am gone at work.  It's rough though, for all of us.

On a positive note, Libby rolled on her own from yummy to back last Saturday.  See the video of it here:

She's also playing with toys...reaching for them, pressing buttons, etc. So cute!  She also babbles like crazy these days...I swear she says "hi!" and sometimes we hear "mom."  Hopefully we can capture it on video too.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

We had her 2 month appt. last Monday.  She's 15 lbs, 1.5 oz (>95%); 24 inches long (90%) and 15.75 inches (50%) for head circumference.  She got three shots and one oral vax and did really well with them (although she slept all day after that).  We've put away her 3-6's and brought out her 6-9's!

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?

That even if you introduce the bottle and baby takes it initially, they can change thir minds later.  Babies, even at a day old, can drink from a cup.

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby?

The first thing I bought were some adorable gender  neutral newborn socks.  She's already outgrown them.

My latest purchase?  The Vulli Sophie the Giraffe teething toy.  Yep!  She's starting to teethe!

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?

Depends on who the person is and how attached I am to the name.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.)

Not really.  When babies would be on TV and they'd bark or whatever we'd say, "that's a baby.  be nice."  hey have never once barked or acted aggressive towards Libby.  They love her...love to sniff and lick her (we let them lick her feet).

I had oatmeal and Mother's Milk Tea every morning from the day we came home until about 4 weeks pp when I started to have an over-supply issue.  Now I have it about 3 times a week.  I also avoid broccoli because it makes her fussy whenever I eat it.

I do continue to try to get in about 3 liters of fresh water each day.  When it's warm out, more.  And no more than 6 oz. of coffee in the mornings (which is rough when you're feeling sleep deprived and want much more than that!)...

    Here's Libby playing "piano":

And taking a nap (yes, I let her sleep in the middle of our bed...she sleeps for hours that way.  In her crib?  30 minutes, tops!):

my mom got her that cute bracelet.

I've started bathing with Libby when I need to give her a bath.  J will still bathe her in the Spa Baby (he loves it and so does she) but I get nervous bathing her in it so I just get in the tub with her...easy peasy.  And it's fun to let her splash and kick around.

Our baby bath tub was used all of 3 times.  Now we just shower or bathe with Jack.  He wasn't a fan of the baby bath tub and this is faster anyways.  At first I sat down and used the handheld in the shower but now I stand and hold him for the most part - as he gets bigger I will need to sit again, or maybe get a mesh sling.

He loves having the water spray him but he REALLY loves the naked time I give him before and after (while I'm doing my showering).  I don't worry about him peeing on anything because I can just wipe it up and since we have heated tiles it's nice and toasty down there.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 37 weeks and 5 days.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still feeling pretty good.  We installed our car seat and got it checked out yesterday.  Baby will have a safe ride home from the hospital, yay!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next appointment is Tuesday.  The most exciting thing to happen at that appointment will be another internal.  Oh joy.....

    (4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? We covered episiotomies and tears in our class last week and yikes, up until that class, for some reason, I only thought that tears could happen at the bottom.  It never occurred to me that although not common, it could also happen at the top.  Yeeeouch!  Some of the confidence I had last week when I answered this check-in immediately disappeared when the teacher mentioned this.  Stick out tongue

    (5) What was (or will be) the first thing you bought for the baby? The very first thing we bought was a pair of whale socks.  Smile  They were cute and on sale so we couldn't resist.

    (6) Would you consider a baby name off limits if someone you knew was thinking of using it (does it depend on the relationship? someone on the internet vs acquaintance vs sibling, etc.)?  If it was someone we were close to or saw frequently, then yes, we'd consider that name off limits.

    (7) Are you doing anything special to prepare your pets for having a baby in the house? (Playing a CD of a baby crying, etc.) No pets for us.  Boo!

    (8) Are there any questions that you'd like to see here in the future? Where does baby sleep and how did you manage to transition to a different sleeping arrangement if it's changed?

I'll update on Monday with a pic of the 38-week bump.  Smile
