Speaking of Book Club. . .
So I haven't been able to make one yet do to my schedule - but I have been reading some of the books!
Do any of you have a Nook? I got mine a few months ago and have been flying through books. I'm headed to China in a few weeks, and I'd love to "borrow" some books from anyone that might want to share! I've got some in return that I can share!
Re: Speaking of Book Club. . .
How do you like the Nook? I was about getting a e-reader sometime in the next year or so, but now that the iPad's out, I'll probably wait until there's a couple of more generations. I read somewhere that they nerfed the lending feature so that you can only lend out one book at a time. True?
So far I love it! I've travelled with it 3 times now, and really like that i can download books on the go, and never have to carry around a full carryon full of books to read on my trips! I also like that i can read in bed, and i dont have to hold both sides of the book to flip the page (silly i know).
The other feature i enjoy that I didnt think I would - is that all of the books i buy on B&N I can view on a mini reader on my iphone as well through an app. I like this b/c if I forget my Nook, and am sitting somewhere waiting, I can just open the app and read from there. I **think** the Kindle has this function too - so it isnt Nook specific.
The only downsides I see (and I dont think this is Nook specific either) is that sometimes I go to B&N and they have books on sale for 30-50% off, and the e-version of the book is more expensive. I think that is obsurd . . . and hopefully B&N will fix that in the future. And it does no good to be a B&N member, b/c none of the discounts apply to ebooks or Nook accessories =(.
I hadn't heard about not being able to loan out more than 1 book at a time =0! I'm off to google that now!
Okay - after some investigation here's what I found about loaning:
You can loan out multiple books at a time, but it can't be to the same person.
Once you loan out a book, you can't loan it out again (publisher restriction).
Some books aren't lendable if the publisher didnt accept the terms, etc.
Thanks for the feedback. The Nook was the frontrunner for me until the iPad came into the picture. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens with comics and graphic novels.
That's interesting about the lending. I recall it being really controversial when it was announced. This seems like a reasonable compromise, even if I don't really get the thing about not being able to loan more than one book to a person. Though, that would probably help me reduce the size of my to-read stack. Maybe it's not so bad.
Chicklit - true! I couldnt figure out why you couldnt loan more than one either, but I figure since you only have 2 weeks to read it anyways, its probably better off not to have a bunch of books in your queue that will expire without being read in that time. I just wish they would up it to being able to loan out maybe 3 times, or something like that!
