I hate these stories....

A Navy E2-C Hawkeye went down in the Arabian Sea last week.  This is the plane DH used to fly when he was a Navy pilot.  Every time our local paper does a story on a downed plane, they always show a picture of the wife holding a baby and being handed the folded American flag.  It makes me cry every single time.

These pilots are usually all the same age and rank as DH.  He knows almost all the Hawkeye pilots because the community is so close knit.  My heart skips a beat whenever I hear about one going down because I'm afraid it's going to be a friend's husband.

DH misses flying (he had to switch to Supply for medical reasons), but I feel so much better with him being on a ship.  I don't know if I could handle being that woman in the newspaper photograph.

Sorry to be a debbie downer, but I just clicked on our local paper's website and that story was at the top.

Re: I hate these stories....

  • That is sad... I couldn't imagine feeling that way whenever you hear a plane goes down!
  • I know exactly how you feel.  P is a huey crew chief/door gunner and it seems like we always know someone that has been killed or injured when one crashes.  It's an awful feeling.  Hugs to your Navy family
  • I totally understand why. I tend to get choked up whenever I hear about a local soldier losing his or her life on the news. Whenever they talk about their families, I can't help but think about how horrible it would be to lose my a parent, sibling, or my husband. Military families don't get enough credit.
