Boosting my sex drive.

I'm recently having trouble really being in the mood.. and when I am seems like he's not and vice versa. Any ideas? I am on birth control but have been for about 6 years so I don't think that is it. I am also on prozac though, so if anyone has experienced low libido on that that'd be good information. My doctor said that prozac usually doesn't effect sex drive though so I don't think that's it. I miss my sex drive!

  • Methinks your doc is an a$$.  It very well could be the Prozac.  It also could be the pill.  Don't rule out the pill just because you have been on it for 6 years.
  • Yeah she kinda made me feel bad talking about how that's not common with prozac.. I was like oh.. okay.. maybe it's just me then..

And on the birth control, really? I thought since it was fine before it should be fine now. Although.. now that I think about it.. I have switched brands a few times just for monetary reasons.. hm.

  • Really on the BCPs.  Your hormones will change as you age.  I have some awful PMDD kickin' at 27 that I didn't have at 21.
  • St. John's Wort. It helps with depression and anxiety, and it put my sex drive through the roof.

ETA: B12 can also help since it increases your energy.

  • Maybe it has to do with THIS?

Of coruse it won't always be fine - the hormones in the pill stay the same, but YOUR hormones change as you get older.  So the effects can definitely be different over time.  You may now need a lower dose.

Loss of libido is the #1 complaint of BC pills.

  • It is not a "common" side effect. But it is a side effect. Some people get different side effects on different meds. Prozac killed my sex drive too. But, I have been on several and found that all pretty much kill sex drive for me, even though it's not a common side effect. Sigh...

Haha nah. Was super emotional that week. I'm still embarrassed I posed that.  I am working on my communication though. Brooding less.

Hm.. shall definitely have to try that. In between doctors right now though, super frustrating.

Can't believe I didn't think about that, thanks!

I tried a bunch of different ones too. Lexarpo for one was horrible. Ick.

  • I think St John's Wort is one of the few things that shouldn't be taken along with the pill...  It is said that it can reduce the effectiveness.
  • Glad someone else mentioned it - St. John's Wort is known to interfere with the effectiveness of birth control.  Definitely consult your doc or pharmacist before trying SJW.

  • Prozac killed my sex drive.  I switched to Lexapro and it is some better.

  • fake it till you make it.       you can probably think of many times you didnt feel like sex but few if any times after sex that you were bummed that you just did that....

and ditto that hormones change a lot over time.

and im not trying to read into it, but you mentionend "monetary reasons" i just read a post about a woman whos sex life got better after she paid of debt, didnt realize how much stress was messing with her sex drive.

  • decreased sex drive is a well-known side effect of antidepressants.  However, sometimes it's worth it to deal with depression/anxiety.  health care professionals can give you a script for testosterone cream.  It helps some people.
