RSVP Hell

I am currently in the middle of RSVP hell.

I sent out our invites almost 6 weeks ago and people still have another 4 weeks to RSVP.

On the invitations it said...

Please RSVP by _______ to www.com or

call _______ at ########.

I have had quite a few people tell random people to tell me they are coming.

For example, my aunt called my sister to tell them our cousins in fairview told her to tell us they are coming. WTF? How many of you are coming?

Plus we have had two people who have RSVP that were not even invited.

Ugh, I really hope this is the most annoying part of the wedding process.

Did any of you go threw this?

Re: RSVP Hell

  • I didn't go through that, but that's cause my guests knew I'd rip them a new one if they did! lmao

    People are ignorant. That's it.

  • I think having a website or phone # to call definitely adds to the confusion. I just received an invite where I have to RSVP online with a "web code" that is on the invitation. I am one of the most tech-saavy people I know, but to me that is a pain in the butt because I have to remember to take that invitation up the stairs to the office and inevitably spend 20 minutes browsing their website, instead of just checking YES and plopping it into the mail. Maybe I'm old fashioned. The only problems I had with the RSVP's were a few people were a little bit late, but no other problems. We just had regular mail-in RSVP's and 120 guests. Good luck!
  • Yes I went through this with my rsvp's.  We invited one couple (my dad's cousin and husband) and they called to say that they could come, but also to ask if their family was invited.  It only said their names on the invite, but we said it was ok if their two daughters came as well but that we didn't have space for their boyfriends or children.  They then called back later to say that they "forgot" that they booked a cottage and couldn't come.

We thought it was nice of us to extend the invite to the daughters, but apparently they thought it was rude that we didn't include the rest of the family and decided that no one would attend.  My dad was pretty offended.  We had some other issues with rsvp's, but this one stands out in my mind.

  • Yes. We had options of online, phone or email. Quite a few people from my ILs list (people I had never met) didn't RSVP. So I asked my MIL to call them and check, a week or so later she called me to tell me. Well it wasn't until 3 weeks later (the week of the wedding) that I found out that she did not call a single person that I asked her to and GUESSED instead. Thanks for nothing.

  • We only asked people to mail the RSVP's to us. We figured that would be much easier especially for those family and friends that are not tech savvy, or don't have a computer at all.

We ended up calling people after the deadline to see if they were coming. I had to call my own Aunt, on the phone she was like "did you honestly think I would miss it?". I just thought to myself "well yeah, because you didn't RSVP!"

    People are stupid sometimes.

  • Yes. We had email or phone RSVPs (we listed an email we set up for the wedding, and his and my phone numbers) and a lot of our relatives RSVP'ed to my parents. Annoying, but I kind of expected it, so we had prepped our parents to make sure they would get the exact info.

God, families and weddings are so stressful and bring out the crazy in people.  This scenario is very similar to what happened in my family with a cousin's wedding.  10 years later and there is still bitterness.

OP-uh what about the people who weren't invited who RSVP'd what are you doing with them?  lol.

    ELOPE people ELOPE!

  • We did an email and phone RSVP and had a handful of people not reply. We contacted them to see if they were coming and got their answers. The people with computers emailed, everyone else called. So we had no problems in that area.

I would be hella pissed if people who weren't invited were RSVP'ing and I would be calling them to let them know that the venue is full so you can not accomodate them (or something like that).
