food poll (because I'm hungry)

If you could have anything to eat right now (or for your next meal if you just ate), what would it be?

I'm seriously craving tempura battered something or other. Don't care what. Veggies (especially broccoli!). Shrimp. Tofu. Whatever. Plus some soy sauce with chopped fresh chili in it to dip the tempura goodies in.

I'd also like a Corona with a lime wedge (yes, I like crappy beer - "good" beer is wasted on me).

And a Cinnabon. With extra icing. And nuts.

Clearly I'm not in a healthy mood at the moment lol.

Re: food poll (because I'm hungry)

  • SUSHI OR SEAFOOD (like crab or shirmp)!  Germany is not well known for their fabulous seafood and sushi.  I've had sushi once since I've been here and that's only because MH dragged me there when I had a very bad week at work (he doesn't even like seafood very much).  We didn't have much - not as much as I normally would eat - and it was over $50.00 for the meal.  I MISS SUSHI!!!!!!!

And then I would top it off with an amazing mojito made just right... and for dessert, hot tomales just because I feel like it (and it's only 6:30 in the morning right now).  Today is going to be a bad eating day already... I can feel it.

OMG I'm soooooo with you on this! There is one restaurant where I live that serves "sushi" (yes, the quote marks are intentional) in addition to other stuff on their menu. I was SO excited when they opened - I figured it probably wouldn't be the best sushi I'd ever tasted, but I missed it so much that I was willing to give it a shot.

As it turned out, they only had three rolls on their menu: egg, tuna and, weirdly enough, chicken. I gave it the side eye but ordered all three. The roll fillings were egg salad (mushed up, like what you make a sandwich out of), canned tuna and dry chopped up chicken breast. All of the other ingredients were the same in all three rolls: the standard nori and rice, plus a buttload of grated carrot, a few slices of bell pepper (ick) and TONS of mayonnaise (seriously!).

It was awful. I mean, I figured it wouldn't be incredibly amazing or anything since we're about 4 hours from the coast, but I was stunned that they'd even try to call it sushi and have the balls to sell it to customers. It was so gross that I literally couldn't eat it.

I was just at happy hour and someone ordered the beer battered avocado appetizer - YUM.

I would really like some really fresh dungeness crab.  The roadside crab man said he would be set up on Easter weekend and he never did show up, I have been craving it for a few weeks now.

  • I'm working overnight this week... so the I've got the munchies bad. Right now I'm really wishing hard for ice cream. Ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt - anything cold and creamy would be heaven right now. I'm almost ready to drive to McDonalds just to get a little hot fudge or caramel sundae or even better a Wendy's chocolate frosty.

And when I get home - I want a glass of red wine.. nice big fat juicy zinfandel. Planning to guzzle it down before the sun comes up and pretend I'm a normal person going to bed while it's still dark.

  • Lisa - the sushi here was very similar and there wasn't much to choose from.  All I wanted was a delicious Philadelphia or New York roll (different places call it differently) - salmon, cream cheese and avocado.  MMMmmmm!  But did they have that, no.  I'm dying without any good places to get shrimp dishes.  I am counting down the days until I go back to the states for some training because I am going to chow down on some sushi and seafood.  WOO HOOO!!!

SnarlingFox - a love your description of a "nice big fat juicy zinfandel".  Hahaha I remember working night shift and racing to get home before the sun came up so I could feel like normal person going to bed when it's dark.  I also remember trying to stay awake on my nights off.... I watched A LOT of Golden Girls and the Nanny... and ate A LOT of pizza and Coldstone ice cream.  No bueno....

  • Mmm, Phil and I had beer battered fish and chips from a shop down the street from us, and it's the BEST in the city. There were so many chips that I saved some, and reheated them the next morning for breakfast (I topped it with a poached egg). Sooo tasty.

I could totally go for that again.

  • I want Buffalo Wild Wings boneless chicken wings dipped in ranch.  And their potatoes.  And a big FAT beer!  I've sooooo been craving beer lately!

  • Oh what I would do for some CA tacos and a carne asada burrito.  We found a place in Oregon that serves it up right but that's an 1.5 hour drive.  Its tempting though!

We are doing taco soup tonight, and that was actually something I was craving so i'm excited about that.  Yes
