Anyone using/used Mirena..

I am considering Mirena in the next 2 years after we decide on having another child or not. Did any of you girls have any problems with it? Someone told me that it can fall out, not sure exactly how true that is, but I figured I would ask. I would love to hear all feedback on this regardless if it's good or bad.. TIA

Re: Anyone using/used Mirena..

  • Just visiting on a quiet Friday night. I had one for about 2 years and it never fell out.  The insertion hurt like a MOFO but No periods the whole time and so much easier than being on the pill since I didnt have to take it daily or have PMS.  You just check the strings every so often to make sure they are right.  I don't know anyone who had theirs fall out.

  • Okay, good to hear!
  • I've had mine since January. No problems so far. They told me it could take about 6 months for my period to "regulate". T haven't had a "normal" period since January but I have been spotting since then.

As far as it falling out, you're supposed to check it regularly so I'm not sure how people don't notice them coming out, or how you wouldn't notice it in the toilet or anywhere else that it would have fallen out, and then to not be smart enough to stop having sex once you noticed it wasn't in anymore.

  • I've had Mirena since last August, and it hasn't fallen out. I have had problems with it though. I've had BV twice since I've had it and YI out the a*s. And they're not normal YI's they're the ones that hurt and burn like crazy and are extremely painful. I talked to my gyno about it and he said it is a possible side effect from the Mirena because it is a foreign object in your body.

I've considered taking it out to not have to deal with it anymore, because it's more of a hassle than anything. Although, I'm not making any decisions until my H gets snipped.

  • I have used mirena for about a year and 1 month.  I was told that it would hurt going in but I did not feel a thing.  I have not had a period in about a year and I love it!  I would definately recommend it.
  • Jumping on the recommending bandwagon! I love mine. I've had it for 2 years and like people said the only down sides have been insertion (hated that... don't want to know what it will feel like to be taken out!) and irregular periods inthe beginning. I had spotting for monthsssss. For the last 18 months it has been wonderful. The only part that stinks a little is that since your period is lighter and less frequent it is not every 28 days or so, its always a surprise. Check with your insurance, mine was 100% covered. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
  • I've had my Mirena in for about a year and half, and I love it.

Insertion hurt so bad, but once that was done I didn't have a single problem after wards. I was still nursing when it was put in, so I didn't have any periods till I weaned my son in September '09, but within a month my periods returned nice and normal. No cramping, no pain.

I know there are women out there with horror stories, but at least for me an IUD has been a great choice.
