Recent Home Buyers come in please...

How long did it take you in underwriting to be cleared for closing if you were already preapproved?

I really feel like we are being yanked around a lot.  My lending officer says this is normal now since the whole real estate crash, but it seems ridiculous.  We keep being asked to provide documents we've already provided countless times.

Anyone dealt with this?  Am I just being a baby about it?

Re: Recent Home Buyers come in please...

  • Same thing happened to us last year. It was a royal PITA.
  • Same thing happened with us.

"Oh we will close Tuesday, or no we will close next Friday" it was never ending at one point.  Just hang in there!

  • We were told a month  total to close. We closed in a month, to the date. Pretty painless for us, but I've heard horror stories about people being yanked around.

    Best luck!

  • Ours wasn't too bad b/c we had an offer on a "short sale", but their bank was taking too long for us ( it was a few weeks and we still had not heard anything), ( but we were in the clear with our bank ) so we started looking again while we left the offer on the table.. Once we found something, we removed the other offer and put it on the new house, but since my bank already had everything, we just had to submit the new paperwork on the new house, but didnt have to resubmit everything else since it was less than 3 mos since we had turned it in.  But we closed w/in a week of when they said we were.. the hold up was that our house was a foreclosure and their attorney wanted the final paperwork 72hrs prior to closing and they only had it for 48hrs..

I know it can be frustrating, but hopefully it will get better and before you know it, you will be in your house..

  • Thanks guys.  I was pretty much at the end of my rope yesterday.  Our lending officer is going to go to the underwriter's supervisor on Monday because the underwriter is just being a jerk about things we've already provided.  We'll see what happens on Monday.
