How long have you been on the pill?
I have been on the same pill for 5 years. I'm sick of it! Wishing that I could go off...DH is finishing up school and is not totally convinced. Just out of curiosity, how long have you been on the pill? Are you tired of it?
I'm a lurker :P Thanks for any feedback!
Re: How long have you been on the pill?
I've been on mine for 4 years now.
I'm very tired of it, and have thought of the shot. Most girls that have had that done have gained weight from it though, so I don't want that! I won't do any sort of nuvaring or anything like that cause that thought just makes me hurt, even though they say ya don't feel it. So, it looks like I'm stuck with the pill.
I recently switched my BC pill because of all of the side effects but I was on that one for 2 years.
The one I'm on now is better, but I would love to not have to take it.
What exactly do you mean, your DH is not totally convinced? Are you wanting to go off the pill in order to get pregnant?
I was on the Pill (several differerent ones) for about 12 years and the NuvaRing for about a year before I went off birth control to TTC. Went on the minipill at my 6 week postpartum check-up. Went back on the NuvaRing just over a year after my DS was born.
The few months that I was off birth control (and not pregnant) I was a cranky, bloated, pizza-faced mess with oily hair and skin. I much prefer to be on birth control.
What exactly are you "sick" of?
Thanks for the responses! I guess there are pros and cons to being on the pill. The thought having a pimple is pretty scary! As far as TTC, DH have different opinions (don't flame, it's all good!). I would be thrilled if it happened today. DH would have a mini panic attack- he's finishing up grad school. He'd run around doing his "omg we have no money" thing- just as he did when we bought our house. So, prognosis is: wait until he graduates (next May) until I go off the pill. As for what I'm sick of....pumping horomones in my body (creeps me out), low libido, and I really just want my body to be able to function natrually.
Thanks for the input!
There are a lot of different forms of BC - I and several women here have IUDs and think they're the best things ever. If you're considering TTC in the near future, I'd look into FAM/NFP if I were you - there's a book called "Taking charge of your fertility" that everyone here recommends. It's a natural way to prevent pregnancy (but it's NOT the "rhythm method," which is crap and doesn't work), as well as to find the best times for conceiving. If you have difficulty getting pregnant you might need to learn this anyway, so you might as well check it out now and use it to prevent pregnancy since you're sick of the pill.
To answer your question, I was on the pill for about a year before I had enough. I hated it. I got an IUD, and it has almost no side effects and is more efficient at preventing pregnancy than any pill. But since it's expensive and lasts for 5 -10 years if you want it to, it wouldn't be very economical for someone who would keep it in for only a year or so.
I was on the pill for 4.5 years. I just stopped taking my pills a month ago! We were thinking we would TTC soon, but now we are re-thinking. I am just going to stay off until we do decide to TTC.
I never had horror stories of the pill making me crazy or losing my sex drive or whatever else it supposedly does. I was just fine on the pill, and now that i've stopped, I haven't noticed any side effects.
Been on the pill for 5 years, just switched mine because every cycle I got more and more hormonal. I agree with you- I CANNOT wait till H is done with school so I can be done with it. I am never going to be on a hormonal method again! H and I were just talking about this last night. The second we start TTC I am never going back to hormones. The way we look at it: once you have a kid and you want more some day, try to prevent but it wouldn't be the end of the world if you got pregnant (again) earlier. Once we are done and it would be the end of the world if we got pragnant again- he is getting snipped ;-)
I love the pill because I feel protected, but I hate everything else about it.
