laser hair removal
where would you be more likely (have more trust doing) have your laser hair removal done at a dermatologist's office or a place like American Laser Center?

Your laser center doesn't sounds very nice. Ours here is very professional looking. You sound like you are uncomfortable with it, if you are- go with the dermatologist then. They definitely could do it and are medically trained. I just feel like the laser centers would know more about the laser hair removal because that is all they do. Ours here looks almost like a spa and it looks like it would be a little more comfortable than a doctors office.
I would choose electrolysis over laser any day.
Laser is hair reduction. Electrolysis is permanent hair removal. It works much better, slightly painful but better results. I got it done about a month ago and I'm very happy with the results.

I had my laser completed a couple of years ago and love it. I have a friend that is a Plastic Surgeon and she had staff that was trained in laser removal. I imagine if the personnel have been trained, and licensed it shouldn't matter if you went to a dermatologist or the laser center.
I go to ALC, they are licensed and certified at what they do, the girl who does mine is an RN on top of it all. They are not paid minimum wage, she makes as much (if not more) than I do as an accounting manager w/a MBA. She only has to work 4 days a week too!

I also go to ALC and LOVE it. Everyone is well trained. Actually as part of their training they have to laser themselves. Not get lasered by someone else but actually laser themselves.
The reason I chose ALC over my local dermatologist is that ALC has a guarantee. I preferred that. Also I figured a dermatologist does a lot but ALC only does lasering and facial/spa treatments. So I figure they do it more often then a dermatologist would.
I have really enjoyed my experienced with my laser removal at ALC. I got a brazilian done. I still have 1 more session to go but I rarely have to shave at all anymore. Maybe once before I go to my next session. It's been like that since session 5 or so.
American Laser Center doesn't actually use a laser. They use IPL, which is different. (Look at their site, it says they use "advanced combined-source technology, which combines the beneficial effects of pulsed laser light with the extra safety and fine-tuned control of radio frequency (RF) energy." They use the same thing for facial rejuvination and hair removal. That should be two separate instruments. IPL is great for facial treatments, not hair removal.) You need to go to someone who uses an actual Laser for hair removal, preferably EpiCare LPX Alexandrite system, which will give you better results. (No, I don't work for a laser hair removal place/spa. I have looked into this for quite a bit and am undergoing laser removal right now. There are some studies out there and I'll try to find them if you want.)
I have a friend who's been going to ALC for three years and it still hasn't 'taken'. She's done the 'free' 2-3 years of maintenance but they finally said they couldn't do anymore. I bet if she went to my place, that hair would be gone. (We both have dark hair, light skin, so results should be fairly similar.) I've had 2 treatments and it's already a HUGE difference. I'm so happy I can't believe it! And, I'm only paying around $40 per treatment and they fully expect me to be finished after my 4th treatment. I expect it too, based on my results (but they'll give me free maintenance treatments if I want). And my friend has paid thousands of dollars and still needs more treatment.
Can you give more details on where you go, what process they use?
I used ALC a few years ago, with great results immediately, but horrible after about 50% success. I'd love to get it done again, but am gun-shy after such bad results (and supposedly I'm the "perfect" candidate). Tell me more about your process.

I go to a place that only does laser hair removal, nothing else. They're not a chain. They use the EpiCare LPS Alexandrite system and it's unbelieveable. I've had two treatments and I almost feel like I could quit now! This system also has the ability to do larger spots up to a little bit larger than an inch per 'zap'. That really speeds it up when doing large areas like the legs.
I suggest doing research on the lasers out there . Just don't waste money at ALC. They use a low strength laser cuz they're afraid of burning people. Their people aren't very well trained, and they mainly sell packages, not results.
