Pet owners

A short poll for you:

What vacuum do you have?

Is it good for pet hair?

Is it good for carpet and floor?

TIA!

Re: Pet owners

  • What vacuum do you have?

Dirt Devil Reaction Bagless (cyclone action)

Is it good for pet hair? Yes! We have two cats who shed like crazy, and it works very well for us.

Is it good for carpet and floor? It has a mode for both carpet and floor, but I have yet to try it on the kitchen floor.

  • I have a dyson animal.  I have mixed emotions about it.  It picks up the pet hair really well but it's so flipping heavy.  It has a button you can push that turn off the beater bar, which I do for our actual hard wood floors but for the laminate wood floors not so much.  I really like the newer dysons and wished we had waited.
  • Dyson Animal. I love it and it is worth every freakin penny.  We had two vacs before and both never picked up half of what our dyson picks up.  Yes, it is heavy, but unless you are having to load it up and down stairs, I dont find it to be that big of a deal.

We can't afford a Dyson, but which ones did you have before?

  • We have the bissel pet hair eraser! Great on carpet, so so on hard surfaces. It's lasted 3 years which is long for me. I'm tough on vacuums- I seem to think it's cool to vacuum things like rawhide (what killed our last vacuum). It does get the occasional clog but it's easily unclogged. Reasonable price!

We had 2 Bissels but don't remember which.
  • before the dyson, I had a Bissell Pet something or other.  That seemed to work fairly well and I was happy with it.  I actually use it now to vacuum out my car since it has a detachable canister and Seamus loves his car rides.
  • We just got the #1 rated vacuum (according to Consumer Reports) Its a very very basic Hoover Windtunnel. It looks old school, doesn't have any wand attachments or anything. I feel like my carpets have never been so well swept and it actually works on my bare floors also.  Its 12 lbs, so I use it on my stairs and it works well there also.

Don't worry about the no wand attachments though, because it also comes with a hand held canister vacuum also, which is also awesome. I swept off my cat's window perch the other day and sweep off pet hair from curtains and our couches with it.  It is also easy to carry around, and the cord winds around it so its not in the way when you're finished.

The best thing about it?  Its #1 and it cost us only $250.  It is not bagless, but I don't really care about that because I feel like when I had a bagless one the dust and dirt just flew out of the trash when I emptied it into there anyway.  I prefer to have it contained. It has automatic adjusting for bare floors and carpets and a high and low setting.  Don't let the appearance fool you.

According to Consumer Reports, Dysons suck, BUT I haven't had one, and I know many many people that are satisfied with theirs for years. My MIL swears by hers for pet hair, but yeah, for the money, I am in LOVE with my new vacuum.

  • We have a Shark Navigator and I love it, BUT we don't have carpeting.  I use it on the tile/hardwood floors instead of sweeping.  I use the pet hair attachment for the couches, chairs, but again, we don't actually have to use it to get pet hair out of carpeting so I am not sure how it does with that.
