DH and I put a bid on a HUD house and found out today we were beat out by over $8000. After closing costs and the down payment, they easily paid $1000 more than what the house was even appraised at! Boo to them! Don't they know that I wanted this house too?
I know that there are more house out there. I know this wasn't meant to be. I know we will find THE house. But right now, I just want to pout.
/vent over.

Re: Boo.
That sucks
We found an amazing house that had just gone on the market. When we went to put in our offer, we found at that someone else already had, and it had been accepted! It sucks to have a house "taken away" like that!
Good luck!
Oh, I hear you. We were house-hunting at this same exact time last year and we "lost" a house too, although under different circumstances. We went to look at it with our realtor, decided then and there to put in an offer, then learned later that night that it was already under contract but the MLS hadn't been updated. We were crushed, and pretty sure we'd never find another house (our market was super-tight in our price range).
Later that week, we found THE house. We only thought that other one was THE house. Twice as big, same price, better neighborhood by far! We talk now about how thankful we are that we didn't get the first house.
I hope something similar happens for you, and quickly! I remember all too well how stressful and all-consuming house hunting can be.
My sympathies!
Putting in an offer and being the third on the list has happened to DH and I 2 times now. Everyone keeps telling us that real estate is down, but if the house is a good price, there is still a bit of competition for it!
We just saw a house we loved and put in an offer right away (meaning the house was literally just put on the market that morning) because we did not want to be put in that situation again. We are much happier with this house than the other two that we put in offers on and did not get.
Trust me, something better will come along!
That happened to us too, 3 years ago. I still remember the address. I think I'm still in love with that house. *le sigh* Not that I drive by it every now and then... no... never...
