Photog Girls

Had my first senior pic session...and wanted to share some pics. Is there still a photog board? I have been trying to get in the Austin one but have had no luck....if anyone is able to give me details about it ...that would be great.

  • hey there!  good pics - seniors are fun, aren't they?!  they actually like to look at the camera and are willing participants for almost anything.  I need to get more seniors...  =)

    As for CC -

    1)  Great shot - really good focus and clarity, great exposure.  Only critique is to change the crop to be less centered.  I'd put her in the left of the frame and lose the lamp post on the bridge.  that way you won't cut any of the skyline out, but she'll be more in the rule of thirds.

    2)  This one seems much more muted than the others in the set.  I'd give it a bump in curves and brighten it just a tad so that it's more consistent.  I'd also maybe clone out the light on the wall on camera left, and perhaps straighten the crop (if you look at the very top of the frame, you can see by the wooden boards that it's not quite straight).

    3)  Again I'd crop it differently so that it's a little more interesting.  In the future, I'd bring the subject away from the wall a tad, or do a pose where she's purposely leaning (hand on wall, etc).  Her eyes are also a bit dark and I can't quite tell if you have eye contact or not.  Straight on shots are not usually the most flattering for people, as it makes their hips look wide - always try to get a little angle.  love the blue wall though (it's one of my staples!) and the wind in her hair!

    4)   Cool pic!  I wish she wasn't blocking most of the capitol, but it's still going to be a crowd favorite.  I might clone out the 2 orange construction signs that are glowing, and i'd love to see some detail brought back in the sky.  a blue sky would bring some balance to the picture, since it's mostly black and green right now.  might clone out her shorts (?) underneath the gown that you can just barely see peeking through.

Overall, really great job!  Just work on your crops to keep the subject out of the dead-center and be really conscious of your posing (especially when you have such a willing and beautiful subject)!  Cloning out the little imperfections will go a long way to making your photos really stand out as well!

  • I just like to play around with photography, but like your pics!  There is a nest photo board that I check out on occassion, but don't know about the Austin one.  I actually have to take pictures of a 2 yr. old on Sunday...and suggestions on outdoor locations?

Honestly I think anywhere you can find trees and some green grass can make a beautiful background. I would try going in the morning between 8-10 or late afternoon 6-8PM. The sunlight isn't as harsh at these times. But if you focus on the babies...you can get some great up-close shots of them in nature. Of course a field of flowers is always a crowd pleaser.

Shots of them running to you, them being chased, lying in the grass and you looking down at them with the camera. Lots and lots of ideas...with just some grass and trees. Zilker Park would be fun. You have the playground that could play up some big colors, the wide open field, and even a "creek" scene near barton springs pool.

Would love to see photos when you're done.
