experience with 1-800 flowers?

I'm doing a group project. It's a redesign project and we chose 1-800 flowers for our company. I saw the Undercover Boss episode last night and got good project info for that.

Any other good/bad experiences with them?

Re: experience with 1-800 flowers?

  • DH ordered flowers from me a few years ago from there.  I felt so bad on the phone with him bc what he was describing was not what I got.  It should have been a dozen roses surrounded by a lot of purple flowers, according to the photo.  I got four roses and a few purple flowers, with mostly baby's breath for $70.  When DH called they basically said they contract with vendors and can't control the number of flowers- the photo is just an idea of what will be sent.  They credited him half of the money back, but it was still a sad situation.
  • Similar experience here.  There are two 1-800 florists in my folk's home town.  One does an INCREDIBLE job with the bouquets, the other not.  Unfortunately, the order is just first come first serve.  And the crappy florist more times than not ends up with the order.  The last time I used them, I ordered about 175 dollar floral arrangement for my mom's birthday.  I surprised her and visited her and was horrified by the bouquet they had sent.  Two carnations, 3 roses, and lots of green crap.

I called up the florist and complained.  They swore that's what I ordered so I pulled my order and went down to the store.  They claimed they made a mitake and would fix it.  The next arrangement they made was even worse.  So I called 1-800 flowers.  They did reimburse me my money through a gift coupon (which was useless because the only time I use them WAS for my mom).  I asked about what they could do about guaranteeing using the other florist and they said they had no control over that.

Additionally, their international service sucks.  We would send flowers to my great aunt on every holiday in Germany and not once in 3 years did they get the order or the delivery right.  I know it's based on the local florist or so they say, but really?  They should have SOME responsibility on making sure their florists do their job.

I switched to Pro Flowers and haven't had a single problem since.

  • I agree with the pp.  WAY over priced for what is usually delievered.  I usually just call up a florist in the area, explain what I want and they do a wonderful job.

  • I ordered flowers for both my mother and MIL one year. My mom called to thank me for the followers, it should have been 2 dz roses, it was only one. I called them and they offered to send her another order or credit me in full. I took the credit. My MIL got hers and they were wonderful.

Later on that week my mom told me that when she got home she discovered that there were actually two dz roses in the box. She was confused by the packaging. The second dozen was hidden with cardboard.

  • Very bad experience! totally screwed up the mother's day order for MIL, and it was the first year we were engaged or married. I have had really good experience with Teleflora.
  • I ordered an arrangement from them one year for my mom for Mother's Day.  Mother's Day came & went and no flowers.  I had ordered it well in advance so I was pretty p*ssed.  I called and complained-  they refunded my money and I scrambled to get a belated replacement gift.  I would never use them again nor recommend them.

This same exact thing happened to me, except they refused to refund my money.  They made me go through the florist who'd grabbed the order.  The florist's excuse was that Mother's Day was a super-busy time for them, and surely I could understand that they'd need to deliver some of the Mother's Day orders later in the week.  I was not understanding.  They did not refund.  They did deliver to my mom's office later and the arrangement was gorgeous, but still...  Late =/= OK.
