First anniversary romantic getaway

DH and I moved to Austin 2 months after our wedding and this July we will celebrate our first anniversary here. We're not too much into material stuff, we're more into hiking, seeing places, and creating memories. So I'm thinking about having a romantic getaway on our anniversary, but we're still not really familiar with the Austin area. Do you guys know any place around here that you could recommend?

Re: First anniversary romantic getaway

  • You could go get a hotel in Fredericksburg and hike Enchanted Rock while you're over there. Or just camp at the park. Either way is good.
  • I second Fredericksburg and a hiking Enchanted Rock.  Though we really liked the private cottages at Settler's Crossing Bed & Breakfast.
  • DH and I just spent our 1 year this past sunday in Wimberley. Its less than an hour drive so perfect for a day trip. There is great shopping in the town square, with great places to eat overlooking the creeks. A few minutes from the square there are several places to swim/hike etc.. Blue Hole was recommended to us several times. I was told they just redid the trails, and it looks great. Lots of shade too from the cypress trees, the creeks look magical from all the tall trees.

  • Hyatt Lost Pines is a resort just outside of Austin.  They have hiking, river activities, horseback riding, skeet shooting and campfires.  They also have an amazing spa retreat, so you could do whichever or both.

DH an I have also stayed in a B&B in Brenham and visited wineries.

    Happy Anniversary!

  • Thanks for all the great suggestions! I really liked the Settlers houses in Fredericsburg! The Hyatt Lost Pines is already booked for our date - that's what happens when your anniversary is on the Independence Day, I guess :)
