Stolen Poll: First date with DH/SO?

Re: Stolen Poll: First date with DH/SO?

  • Technically our first date was the Homecoming Dance our sophmore year of High School. But I don't count it since we had dinner with like 20 people and it was a school dance! I wish I could find a picture of the horrible purple velvety dress that I wore. hahaha.

A year later though we actually started dating and our first true date was going to the movies -- we saw this AWFUL adam sandler movie called Little Nicky (hubby picked). He swears that he didn't take me to that movie on our first date but it totally was! I can still remember the awkwardness. haha. Oh 16 year old love. Smile

  • When the two of us were "just friends", we saw Minority Report together,  but I don't know if that counts as a date. It was the first time we hung out with just us though. Another time, we went to Texas Land and Cattle for his birthday, and we typically count that as our first date!

  • Valentine's Day, 1999. I asked him out. We were supposed to see She's All That, but it was sold out so we saw some Brendan Fraser movie called Adam and Eve or something like that. Then we swung by Wendy's (we were two college freshman living on campus) and he took me home. It was a Sunday and I had a paper due the next day (I'm a notorious procrastinator).  So exciting! lol
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Dinner at Z'Tejas, followed by drinks at Sherlock's.  We met through match.com, so it was the first time we had met in person.
  • I love first date stories!

And ohmygosh I've (unfortunately) seen Little Nicky (right? That awful Adam Sandler movie). I bet that made for an ... interesting ... date! Haha

There was this guy J who had been trying to date me for a long time. He'd taken me out a handful of times, and I just kept letting him. He was so sweet to me, but I just never was attracted to him. However, I'm really glad I let him take me on that last date! He threw a birthday party for his best friend, and took me. I had known this friend through high school and we'd never gotten along. Well, that friend is now my DH. We apparently got along that day, because he snuck out of his own birthday party and we spent 6 hour sitting in a restaurant and talking. Now we're married Smile

Oh and J has forgiven us, is still a good friend of DH's and I am friends with his wife. All's well that ends well, right?!

  • We went to go see Night at the Museum (the first one) at the Palladium IMAX theater in SA-town on Christmas Day...night? Anyway. It was packed to the freaking moon so we ended up having to sit there for 3 hours to wait for the next available showing. We ate gelatto and laughed at all the kiddos who had decked themselves out in all their new Christmas clothes just to go to the movies, it was fun but I've gotta tell you that 3 hours of just talking and staring at each other is SO MUCH PRESSURE for a first date. Luckily they had this video game thing at the theater that featured a game in which you got monkeys drunk. So that was something.

Then once the movie started I did the whole "leave your hand just sort of lying there in case maybe possibly someone might like to hold it" thing and he was completely oblivious. He told me later that he did think it was weird that I was just sitting there with my arms akimbo, and yes, I do still tease him about that to this day. Additionally, when we got back to my place after the movie he make out attacked me. He was too nervous to hold my hand, but had no issues with the make outs. I don't even know, guys. We were 20! You can't even blame that sort of silliness on high school idiocy! He's lucky he's so damn cute, that's all I'm saying.

(I feel like I always write a novel when I respond to anything. I'm sorry, I'm just sort of obnoxious.)

  • It was just over 3 years ago.  DH has a rock band and his band had a show in San marcos.  I went out to see it.  During the show one of his guitar strings busted so afterwards him and another band member were fixing it.  While he was fixing it he sliced his finger.  So I kissed the finger and made it better :)  Then he kissed me.  Got engaged 6 months later and married 9 months after that :)

Yep, knew each other since 6th grade.  Were friends all throughout middle and high school.  But I am ballsy :)

  • What great stories!

I was in school at UT and DH was at Texas State after a stint at A&M. We had met several months before at a mutual friend's party in College Station (she was at A&M), and continued IMing as friends some time afterward. My friend and her boyfriend were coming to San Marcos to visit DH, and he invited me to join them. We really hit it off at dinner at Applebee's, joking with each other about a desire to take over the world, and divvying up continents and countries between the two of us (ambition is obviously something we have in common). We continued seeing each other from there, and after a few bumps along the way, got married almost four years later.
  • Our first day was dinner at Cracker Barrel in San Marcos because the hubs thought that was the best place in the world and couldn't believe I had never been there.  He opened my world to that weird game with the golf tees...

  • my dh and i were both working at a professional summer theatre when we met.  it's the kind of place where the time line for things seems to speed up because everyone lives there, eats there, plays there, etc.  you're always there.

anyway, our first official date was on june 19th, and we went to a restaurant in a nearby city on one of our few nights off.  i kind of remember this (and dh loves to remind me), but i spent part of the evening talking about why this summer romance wouldn't last.  first date, and i'm talking about how we'll be breaking up.  nice.

i did leave that summer thinking that it probably wouldn't work out, but to his credit, dh called me faithfully at least once a day (sometimes multiple times) for a whole year before moving down here.

  • We didn't really have a first date. we just met, and started hanging out non stop since then. Cute stories though ladies. :)

  • We met online and met up with each other about 2 weeks after talking. We went to Trudy's and then Spider House. Hilarity and embarassment ensued. There's a longer, funnier detailing in the most recent post of my blog if you're curious.
  • Curra's on Oltorf.
  • We met on match.com. Our first date was at Sherlocks. We talked, had a couple beers, watched the NBA playoffs, and then I kicked his butt playing pool. My kind of date! Big Smile

  • We were in college at a fraternity party. We had a drinking contest which I won. There may have been some drunken making out that night. We have been together ever since. How romantic...right? Confused
  • These are very interesting!

DH & I met randomly online via AOL chat (ugh) & talked/wrote letters and emails for several months. We're from the same town & knew a lot of the same folks, just hadn't met.

Our first date was in Seattle. DH was in the Navy & stationed just outside of Seattle. I had a work trip to Seattle. However, DH was supposed to be out at sea when I was going to be there, which was a big bummer. The day before I left, he called to say that they were getting back a day early...and we'd be able to meet up. Anyway, I met him at the pier where his ferry came in from the base, and we walked around downtown Seattle (went to a bar & then went to a fancy Asian restaurant). We ended the night at my hotel bar & he stayed the night (scandalous!) though it was totally PG. He'd just missed the ferry back to the base, so he was stuck in Seattle.

  • DH and I met via myspace ,...I found him. We met about two months later at Baby A's up north. He was over an hour late because a work meeting went way over. Poor guy felt so bad, but it just gave me some time to get drink a little before he got there. Drinks I tell him all the time he better be glad he is so darn cute that I waited for him :)

  • we'd been friends for 2 1/2 years before we went on our first date at rock fish...yeah....you know...that restaurant that is now a twin peaks. klassy!
  • DH picked me up the day after my birthday (when we met), took me to Cheesecake Factory, and then we drove around and looked at Christmas lights for hours and just talking.  It was the best date I had ever been on, which hooked me of course :-)

  • we both lived in the san jacinto dorms at UT (where we met).  After talking couple times, and re-connecting afer summer break - we went to Chuys near Zilker and had dinner.

I went to the UT game the day before and got a sunburn on half my body (the directon of the sun).  I looked incredibly bizzare - but the date went great and I got a kiss goodbye on the steps to the dorm room when he dropped me off.

awwwwwwwwwww. those were really freaking good days.  I love love love that time in my life (and now too... but that time was really special... falling in love...) sigh.

  • DH called me and asked me after he got off work if I could be ready in 45 mins.  He took me to the Oasis just in time for the sunset at dinner.  Then afterward he followed up with putt-putt.  We were having such a great time that I asked if he wanted to go have a drink at the sports bar I worked at.  We've been together ever since.
  • Hmmm.  He asked me to come over and meet, make me dinner, and clean my bike.  We got started, got to talking, and proceeded to talk for the next 12 hours or so.

I was a complete zombie the next day, and completely smitten. :)

  • macaroni grill, sitting by the pond, drinks and games at dave and busters. perfect. :)
