new diet

MIL's friend recently lost 20lbs in less than 2 months on this diet her doctor gave her! It was developed by a nutritionist and seems easy enough (to me). I'm getting groceries tomorrow and starting thursday. You eat a very specific diet for 3 days, then eat normally for 4 days (normally - not pig out). I'm pretty pumped to try it, hopefully this coupled with my running/exercise will get me some results and then I can maintain! I've been slacking lately and look/feel terrible Embarrassed I'll let you all know how it goes if you're interested!

day 1
b: 1/2 grapefruit, 1 slice dry toast, 1 tbsp peanut butter
l: 1/2 cup tuna, 1 slice dry toast, coffee or tea (no sugar)
d: 1 cup beets, 1 cup green string beans, 4oz any meat, 1 small apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream

day 2
b: 1 egg, 1 slice dry toast, 1/2 banana
l: 1 cup cottage cheese, 5 saltines
d: 2 hot dogs (no buns), 1 cup broccoli, 1 cup carrots, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

day 3
b: 5 saltine crackers, 1 slice cheddar cheese, 1 small apple
l: 1 hard boiled egg, 1 slice dry toast
d: 1 cup tuna, 1 cup beets, 1 cup cauliflower, 1/2 banana or cantaloupe, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

"obviously, not everything on this diet is appealing and you are probably going to feel hungry at times, but remember, you only have to stick to it for 3 days at a time, then you have 4 days to eat whatever you want. Eat everything listed and make absolutely no substitutions or additions. Salt & pepper may be used as desired but no other seasonings are permitted."

Re: new diet

  • Interesting.  I would never make it.  The beets, hot dogs, and string beans would get me every time.  I am curious to see how it works though.  Was there a reason that they suggest these particular things?
  • Supposedly it's the way the chemicals in those specific foods interact and affect your metabolism. The dietician at my work claims it's somewhat legit.

  • Apparently something in the chemical makeup? They're all foods I like (hot dogs are OK), may as well give it a try!
  • I hope it works well for you.  I am interested to see how it turns out.  Please keep us posted. GL!
  • Yes, def KUP!  I wouldn't survive, but yah to those who can!
  • Good Luck and keep us posted! I agree with the other girls though, I could never do it -- too many foods there I don't like. Hope it works out for you though =D

  • Good luck!  I don't think I could ever do it.  It seems like there's so.... little.... for you to eat.  Hope you have a good experience with it!

  • Be careful with that diet, it a "fad diet" they call "The 3 Day Diet".  I've read it's unhealthy and does nothing for weight loss.  You do lose weight, but not "fat" weight, but "water weight".  It can also be gained back just as fast as you lost it because of the drastic change in calories (this diet yields only around 1000 calories).  Also if you Google it, it shows a small list of substitutions
    • Orange instead of Grapefruit
    • Tuna instead of Cottage cheese (and vice versa)
    • Frozen yogurt instead of Ice Cream
    • Cauliflower instead of Broccoli (and vice versa)
    • Green beans instead of Broccoli or Cauliflower
    • Beets instead of Carrots
    • Toast instead of 5 crackers (vice versa)
    Good luck and KUP!
