put your brags here

What is the latest thoughtful or charitable or generous thing you have done?  I need a good pick me up today and reading nice stories could do the trick.

And who doesn't like a good AW post??? I know I do! Wink

Re: put your brags here

  • A friend of mine has a dog that she adores.  The dog has been having some medical issues and she can't afford some of the testing that she wants to get for the dog.  I gave her a check the other day and told her to get the testing done.  I've been in very rough financial positions... I know what it's like to just flat out not have the money.  It felt really great to give it to her and to know how much it meant to her.  I have been so fortunate to have other people help me out in tough places... and it was really cool to pay it back in this situation.

  • haha!  the first thing that came to my mind was biting my tongue and refraining from telling a jerky student what i really thought of his behavior.  but, that's just part of the job.  at the time, it seemed charitable and generous!

  • I volunteer as a mentor to an undergraduate student for a really cool and progressive academic program at UT. Last week, the students in this program had a Q&A session with the mentors and the students were so appreciative of the advice we were able to provide.

  • Ugh, I don't like to AW.  But I did feel pretty good about this.  I work at the hospital and I have a patient that is really going through a rough time - dying wife, financial troubles, etc.  I called my boss and told him I'd sign up for the 7:30am Monday committee that he needed one of us at if he'd find a way to get my patient's copay waved. I guess that was easier than finding someone to show up at 7:30am on a Monday.

    that is really freakin' cool!

  • I loved your AW, Shanwalk!  It made me want to go meet ya!

Hmm.. for me, I've made it a point to donate to every person I know who is registering for a fundraising race this year, and have so far donated to about eight different charities through friends who are riding or running (Ride for Aids, Autism, Pablove, Komen, Livestrong, Tour de Cure, and another one). It sounds kind of lame and just like money, but as someone who frequently fundraises through races, I know its a pain to hit that goal! I try to help where I can on that one and give back.

Then, I'm clearing out my house getting ready for my next move, and gave a ton of my old jewelry to a BFF's daughters (they LOVED it.. it was so cute to see them dig through new treasure).  I gave a lot of other clothing to SafePlace, and a bunch of stuffed animals to my aunt's school.  I'm also getting together a lot of books to donate to the library.  It feels good to lighten my physical presence and give what I have to people who need it.

  • Not really an AW... but I am mentee at a local elementary, and we meet every Friday to read or just hang out and talk. Well Im out of town this friday so I told her I wasnt going to be able to come this week and her face about killed me. So I asked her if I could have lunch with her today and she lit up! I have an 11:45 lunch appointment with a 6yo. She requested McDonalds Chicken nuggets and a sprite. Besides the McD's Im looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of 6yo. They are so funny!

  • I don't have an AW, but I do want to AW that I had 2 really nice things happen to ME yesterday. . . both as a result of going to Lowe's. . .
The first thing 1) I decided to go get mulch on the way home (in my dress slacks).  It wasn't a big deal, but I bought the mulch and was hauling it to my car.  Right as I lifted the 1st of 4 bags a husband/wife team came running over and the husband said "I know you are totally capable of doing this on your own, but it looks like you could use a hand", and proceeded to lift the remaining bags into my car.  Wow, thanks total stranger!!
And the second thing - I've been looking for these little brown saucers that you put under clay pots. . . I bought these chocolate colored pots almost 2 weeks ago and have been driving around to various Lowe's to see if the saucers are going to come in.  Turns out, they're not coming in . . . and the guy in the store isn't much help.  So I call customer service to see if they can help me find these littel $1.25 saucers.  They get the mgr of my Lowes on the store, and together they are able to identify a store in new braunfels that has them, and the mgr is going to personally transfer them this week when he goes there for a regional meeting.  Yay, thanks!  It made my day!

Now I guess I need to pay it forward!
