Acupuncture

I was wondering if anyone has had acupuncture before. If so, who did you go to can did you like it? Would you refer your acupuncturist?

 TIA!

Re: Acupuncture

  • I went to the Health Alliance (at least i think that is what it is called). It is located kind of behind kenwood mall. I know that does not sound very helpful, but you might be able to google something. if i talked to my mom I will ask her, she goes once a month.
  • I did.  I went to a DO who was part of the GCAP branch in Springboro.  It was at least 5 years ago and I can't remember his name or find him on the GCAP website.  I went to help my migraines.  I think it did help lessen the frequency & helped my medication work better.  I stopped going b/c my old second rate insurance was giving me problems & refusing to pay.  I would do it again though.  Do you have questions about the actual sessions, discomfort, etc?

  • The needles are very, very thin and don't really hurt but you'll probably feel at least a little pinch or prick for some of them.  Some you won't even notice.  I'd compare it to the first part of a shot, when the needle goes into your skin.  That doesn't hurt too bad, it's the actual medicine going in that hurts.  Obviously no medicne so you won't feel that burn or pain, plus the needles really only go into the very top of your skin (not into muscle).  Needles for blood draws hurt way, WAY more.  And they'll put the needles in some strange spots that really don't correspond to the part of your body that has pain or needs treatment.  For example I had some in my toes and on the top of my feet.  The doctor would leave me on the exam table or in a chair (depending on where they stuck me), turn out the lights, and have me rest with needles for maybe 20 minutes.  I fell aseep a few times.  After the treatment I'd feel an endorphin rush.  It was like a long hard workout.  You feel tired but good.  Oh, and my doctor always asked me if I was feeling too much pain or discomfort or if I felt lightheaded.  I'm sure you can tell them if you have certain body parts that they need to leave aone.  My husband can barely stand to cut his own toenails so he would freak out if they tried to touch his toes.
