XP: NER - Black tie wedding, what to wear?
Re: XP: NER - Black tie wedding, what to wear?
I think they're all gorgeous. Number 2 is probably my favorite.
I am also SUPER jealous that you're going to a black tie affair!
Thanks for the input so far, ladies.
FWIW, I really don't like the third one, either (it feels like it just too much fabric all bunched together in a not very attractive way) but I figured it would be best to look at least of couple of things in my recent grad price range...
I actually really do like the first one, but I REALLY don't think I can afford. Looks like #2 it is. They only have it one size now (which is why it's so cheap right now) - fortunately it's my size!
I think that means its meant to be.
Plus, with the price, you can afford to splurge on some shoes.
I like them all, but I think the 3rd would be better on a curvier woman.
Also check out white house | black market. I found a great silver gown there for my boss's black tie wedding last February (originally $150, marked down to like, $47).

Get this one. And no, not because I want it and can live vicariously through you...
#1 is gorgeous but I could never swallow a price tag like that. #2 is beautiful as well. You can also check out bluefly.com - particularly if you are a standard size. Or, is there an outlet mall near you? Barneys outlets and OffFifth (Saks) outlets are great.
Have fun!

I think the closest outlet is Woodbury Commons. Sadly, they have sales tax there. Boo.
Plus you have to wade through tacky mall shoppers. And most of the sizes there tend to be bigger (I think hr is a 0 or 2...)
LOL!
I actually looked at that one and had it on my "maybe" list earlier this morning.
geez.
if you're in New York, and you're that small, why don't you stake out Century 21 and sample sales??? You may be able to find something truly remarkable in your price range!
I am the 99%.
I am the 99%.
I love the first one, but I wouldn't be able to justify the price. I think the second one is also very nice.
Do you definitely want a black dress? I love this one, too, but it's not black.

All things being equal, I like #1 the best, but I would never spend that kind of money on a dress for a wedding (unless it was like for Prince Williams' wedding at the palace, lol). #2 is my second favorite. #3 is not flattering for some reason.
All that aside, all three dresses seem way over priced for someting as simple as a basic black dress. You can find comparable black dress for significantly cheaper at places like Ann Taylor, Banana, J crew, etc. I would shop around, IMO.
Good luck.

Can you tell that I'm totally living vicariously through you right now? I looooove looking at dresses!

For your body type, I'd go with the second to last. I love the teal one for me, though!
ditto sbp re color. I wore a pale pink cocktail dress that I bought wholesale in the garment district to a fraternity alumni event at the Yale club senior year and the other college girls were all wearing lbd's. And I really grabbed a lot of the attention (positive attention - it was tasteful, just pale pink). Of course, at a wedding I suppose the bride is supposed to get the attention, so it's fine to blend in a little in black. Then again, it's not like anyone will miss the bride - she'll be in one in a formal white gown, afterall.
Sorry for rambling! And sorry for misjudging your size. I swear you look like a 0/2 (+ I thought we had talked about it before, but I guess not). Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'll definitely look into the stuff Kate suggested.
And MD, yeah, I'm generally am a 0/2 in street clothes. But when I go by measurements in designer's lines, I'm more like a 4/6 (the herve leger from our e-pics was a 4), especially when I go by my bust. Eighteen year-old me would be uber jealous of that part of my body right now.
#2 is gorgeous but I ditto LMW... that one is IMO way too $$$$ to spend on a dress for a wedding (that who knows how many times you would wear...) Im sure you can find something gorgeous esp in NYC for under $200!
PS I want an excuse to buy a ballgown too!
