FB Question

I'm embarrassed to say it but I have several FB friends that I have NO idea who they are.  I only accepted them because we had many of the same friends, went to the same high school or even graduated the same year.  Some of them even send me messages asking how I'm doing and congratulating me on my marriage.  Who are these people and why don't I remember them?  My 10 year reunion is next month and I'm really nervous people will be talking to me and I'll have no clue who they are.

ETA:  So my question was; Do you guys have FB friends just because you felt like you should know them and felt bad not accepting their request?

Re: FB Question

  • Yes I do the same thing with high school people.  When I get their request and it says we have xx mutual friends, I do accept.  I don't want to come across snobby or anything.  I do get A LOT of my H's friends/family that request to be my friend because they see my name on his profile as married to and I have NO idea who they are!  And the kicker is, H doesn't even know them that well!  So it's definately a little akward, but I do accept.

And where does everyone stand with co-workers being friends on fb? I have 1 coworker from my office I have as a friend - we're about the same age so we have the same hobbies. But I had some requests from other people in the same company like in our corporate office, but I don't accept those.

    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • I actually know everyone I'm friends with. Some people I may not know well, and I only vaguely remember we went to high school together - but I definitely know them. If I don't know someone I just don't add them.

You just reminded me that my 10 year is next year! Eek! It feels like too soon? lol. Especially with FB now, it's like... who needs to catch up? Aren't you in touch with people who you want to be in touch with?

The high school that one of my cousins went to has 5 year reunions. WTF! I definitely would not go to that one. Too soon! Hahaha.

  • We had a 5 year too.  I thought it was ridiculous and didn't go.  I'm actually really looking forward to the 10 year.  For the most part, I've kept in touch with everyone I wanted to but there are a few I'm excited to see.  I wish we would have one huge reunion for like 5 graduating years.  There are so many people of other classes I would like to see as well.  I guess I should have pushed DH to go to his 10 year (he graduated 2 years before me) so I could see old friends from his class.

My three BFFs and I are going to the beach Friday night and then to the reunion on Saturday.  I'm sure we'll have a blast and then gossip about every one later!

  • I have sooooo many "friends" like that.  I accept their requests in hopes that by browsing through their photos, something will ring a bell with me.  But nope.  And then I'll ask my good friends who some people are and they tell me the same thing...they friended them because they saw that they either went to our school or have the same friends.

We had a 5 year reunion.  I went, but it was at a bar that we went to all of the time that was right down the street...so I would've been there anyways.  It was nothing formal at all.  But I just got a message from our class president asking me to help with our 20 year reunion next year!  I broke out my fingers AND toes and got to countin'...holy freakin' cow...20 years!?  I'm still on my "year off" from college and trying to decide what to be when I grow up!

  • Yes, I have a couple "friends" that fit this description.  Considering I graduated with 350-something in my class, this probably just shows how much of a nerd I was (...or am, lol)!

That sounds like soo much fun!

  • Yes, I do...and sad to say most of them are knotties/nesties.  I have such a hard time remembering whose screen name goes with whose real name.  Not that I don't love you ladies any less...just sometimes can't remember who the heck you are!

This is pretty much the same for me.  There are a handful of girls from my old college sorority that decided to friend as many alumnae as they could, and I'm not totally sure I've met them, but I think I have at least once.
