Have any of you sold your gold jewelry?
I keep seeing the commercials and ads and i'm intrigued cuz i have some old/broken necklace chains and some stuff i don't wear anymore. And i hear that the price for gold (and silver?) is pretty high right now.
I know that i can venture to the Diamond District in Midtown, but i just wondered if any of you ladies had recommendations/advice.
Thanks!
Re: Have any of you sold your gold jewelry?
yes, I sold my gold and made a ton of money! (thank you, ex-boyfriends!). I brought it to a jeweler in the neighborhood. i would not do something like Cash-for-Gold, where you mail it in, because you have no control over whether something is worth it for you to sell or not (like, if they are giving you a really low price for something and you'd rather just keep it). Also, I've heard that their exchange rates are much lower than an actual jeweler.
Silver is not so great - I think it is high as far as silver goes right now, but it's still much, much lower than gold. It only pays if you are selling something hugely heavy, like a teapot or serving platter.
My mom made even more money than i did selling old jewelry - she had this super heavy, tacky charm bracelet that she got from her brother in Italy 30 years ago. She never ever wore it because it was so huge and heavy - and she ended up getting over $900 just for that one bracelet!! There is no way my uncle paid anything close to $900 when he bought it!
The heavier the jewelry, the better. also, they will take out any stones before weighing so they don't get counted in the weight - they aren't interested in stones, just the gold.
Ooh, good to know! I don't have a lot, nor is it heavy, but i'm not wearing it or doing anything with it.

This is exactly what I did - I sold all the tacky jewelry I had saved from my high school exboyfriend. The double heart ring, the bracelet that said "I love you", the double name plate (Jason
Danielle...I had thought of making a name plate out of it too, but just ended up selling the whole thing).
I made about $400 that was mostly courtesy of one ex.
