*affordable* cell phone plan??

I'm fed up with Verizon.  I dropped DH from my plan because he wanted an Iphone.  I was charged $67 for about 100 minutes and about 5 texts.  This. Sucks.  THAT'S with the work discount, too!

Anyone know if AT&T would be worth a switch? Or, someone else?

Re: *affordable* cell phone plan??

  • I don't have any suggestions, except to say that I feel like I'm going through the same thing right now!  And I've been looking everywhere and haven't found much for deals :( There's a new Sprint plan (69. for everything) that sounded great, except that's for one person and I would like a family plan, which then puts it up over 100. Plus to pay taxes on the 69 will make it 80-some dollars, which is nuts!

So, no real suggestions, I guess I'm just commiserating with you.

  • Most of the national carriers are priced pretty closely, because competition wise, they need to be.  I think my AT&T bill was around $78 for 450 minutes and no texts (plus 5k night/weekend minutes) for Calvin & I to share.  That's a little better, I guess.  We share the same number of minutes now, plus I have an iPhone data plan ($30), and the total bill is around $109.

When I lived in Ithaca, AT&T (then Cingular) was ok, but Verizon generally had better service.  In Binghamton I'd check with people who have AT&T or any other carrier about the service before making the switch.

  • I think generally, unless you're on a family share plan. $70-80/month is about right. Stinks, doesn't it?! We have sprint and pay $115 for 2 everything data plans w/work discount but separately it'd be a lot more.

Living in DC, AT&T isn't too bad but a friend of mine says if you take it anywhere out of a metro area, it gets really sketchy service.

  • We're on Sprint, and honestly I don't think it's much better. I never have service issues (dropped calls, etc.) but for DH and I we pay $69 or $79/month for a shared 500 minutes, free after 7pm and weekends. It includes no texting, but we can get that for $5/month.

I'd love to have unlimited texting and a nicer phone, so I'm curious to see what else is out there.

  • Really? Why on Earth is it so expensive for a cell phone? Someone PLEASE explain it to me?  I'm okay with like $30/month, but I just don't see how these bills are justified!
