splinter
Doing work outside the house, I got two splinters that are kind of in my skin so I can't get them out with tweezers. I figured they would work themselves out but... so far they haven't and the one is starting to hurt.
Anybody got any tips on getting splinters out that are in the skin?

I would use a disinfected straight pin. Make sure your hands a really clean. Wipe the pin down with alcohol then try to use it to remove the skin from on top of the splinter. That skin usually has no nerve endings so it shouldnt hurt. It may hurt once you get to the actual splinter. In that case, when disinfecting the alcohol use a drinking alcohol and take a shot before going further. Once you get the splinter out use peroxide and clean out the area real good.

Haha, that's great. I'd do what she said (minus the shot part, lol) and really dig in. Or, no joke, I heard that wrapping a piece of raw bacon around your finger will bring it out overnight (obviously wrap the finger in plastic or something). Not sure if I'd try that, however, especially with the cats creeping up on me at night.
LOL!!!!! That shot thing sounds like a good idea, I'll get Dave to dig the thing out with a pin. I'm not sure I could do that myself, yuck! And bacon? That sounds like an interesting idea. I have a cat, too, haha- wonder what she would think of that one.

Thanks. I should have clarified, I know you can use a pin and stuff... but I have a fear of needles, etc., and I would pretty much try anything else but that. If I do that, seriously, I will have my husband do it and will probably be shaking the whole time...

I use tape but that's only if you can get a piece on the surface.
I will definitely try the salt. I actually have two splinters- the one I'm worried about is not at the surface, and hurts. The other one I figure will work it's way out, but thanks Gerrie- I didn't think about tape!!! I can use that for the 2nd one.
From now on, I'm wearing gloves when I'm working on stuff outside!
