Aruban Kitten Rescue

My parents are going to adopt an Aruban kitten while we are on vacation!! Im so excited!

I just happened to stumble onto this website of an American couple that moved to Aruba and they now run an adoption agency that adopts Aruban kittens/cats out to American families that are vacationing there.

They provide pretty much everything for the trip home and all the shots and everything. We are going to have to buy the new baby a plane ticket home, but luckily since its small enough it will be able to be in the cabin with us, so no luggage compartment for our new little baby!

If its a female we are going to name her Ruby. Short for Aruba. We havent come up with a cute boys name yet.

You have to buy an extra ticket for a cat?

That's so cute, I love kittens!!

  • Just out of curiosity... why not get one of the thousands of kitties here? You wouldn't have to buy anything extra.
  • I have to admit I'm with Gerrie on this one.  There are millions of homeless animals in our shelter system.  You could still get one to commemorate your trip and this way wont have to buy anything extra or stress out the kitty by bringing it on an airplane.  Also keep in mind you will need to provide vet records to the airline.

  • Oh they were planning on getting more than one cat when they got home. My mom is the cat lady. They have a 6 cat occupency. I just thought it would be nice to get one from my parents most favorite place on earth. They have 4 cats now. One is 16 one is 15 , one is 12 and the youngin is 6.  One of the cats actually lives out on our sunroom with the dog since she is a vicious mean nasty thing and cant be in the general population. She was my dads and when he passed we inherited her. Nasty b!tch. So they actually have a 2 cat opening in the house.

    This.

Why do so many people want to fix problems in other countries when the US needs to work on itself?

  • Jillian I wasn't trying to start anything I was just thinking about travelling with a cat and having to pay more $$ for it. I was just wondering why go through the hassle of flying with a cat. I guess I should admit I am very much a dog person LOL and wouldn't want to deal with lugging a cat through the airport. I would check my purse if I could. I hate travelling with bags.

  • Ger, I totally know you werent starting anything. I just wanted you to have a back ground idea of what goes on in my parents house and their reasoning behind adopting a foreign animal. I too am a dog person, but my cat lady mother is a whole nother story.

Its not like Im trying to "help" another country before helping my own. Every single animal I have ever owned has been a rescue. I have had 4 dogs and a dozen cats that were all rescues. I would never pay for an animal from a breeder when I could get a rescue. No one in my family has ever bought an animal from a breeder. I also am a transport volenteer to get rescued animals from one foster home to another since I cant take in another animal. Please dont think Im trying to help another country before my own. If I was not married, I would have as many animals as I could afford.

My parents have a very close attachment to the island of Aruba and for them to be able to have an animal come home with them to care for and love and remind them of our wonderful vacation together means the world to them.

As I mentioned before, they are also planning on adopting a cat here at home. This is not an absolute thing and everything is still up in the air.

  • Yes for all you do here and I'm sure Aruba does not treat their animals as well as our shelters and rescues do here.  At least its a rescued animal and not from a crap breeder so, I approve.

  • Now with all that background on your crazy cat lady momma I wholeheartedly approve.  I think its great that your whole family loves animals so much and sees the joy that comes from a rescue.

Have a great trip and enjoy Ruby (or how about Ruben for a boy?)!
