"before" house photos (D&R)
Since we haven't done any D&R since moving in, our house has about as much style as a college dorm room, well, less in fact. I thought I'd post some "before photos" to get motivated to make some changes... and maybe get advice on what to do!
Check out my slideshow, with pics of my downstairs (minus the little 3-season room, which i forgot to take pics of!) http://tinyurl.com/y5u7pkn
Unfortunately, most of our furniture is mismatched hand-me-downs at this point. So the plan is to gradually go through room by room, paint and update with new stuff... any thoughts on where I should start??

Re: "before" house photos (D&R)
As you know I adore your house. Those built ins are so awesome.
I'd start with paint #1. Do you have an idea what kind of palette you want? Warm or cool tones?

We were thinking about cooler tones. We thought about a sage-ish green for the living room. Not too dark, but enough color to make the white moldings (and white fireplace once we paint it) pop.
I would start with the most public rooms - so probably the LR. I always feel like if I spend my money where the most time is spent, it makes me happier. I can deal with bedroom furniture that isnt great etc for a while. That being said, my LR is the room that I hate the most in our house because we have couches that are just awful but I dont want to buy new ones until I can buy something for a new house so I have to deal with these for at least another 6 months.
The other idea would be to start in the smallest, easiest to change room so that you can get some practice/motivation/confidence to take on the bigger projects.

Good call. I think we are leaning towards working on the living room or dining room first. The dining room bc it would be easy, there is very little furniture to move, and really only needs paint and window treatments to start (along with new table/chairs & a non-1960's light fixture)
Living room needs a lot more love, but we spend all of our time there so the benefits of fixing it up would be greater...
I'm DYING to get rid of the country blue in the kitchen, but I think it will be too big of a project to start with (since the counters and floor are blue).

I LOVE that idea... i think toning down the kitchen walls would make a BIG difference until we could replace the floor & counter.
I haven't made any mood boards yet. I'm having trouble finding a starting point because all of our current furniture is so mismatched and hideous. I'm half thinking about just slip covering the couch/chairs for now to unify them a little...
I love the staircase and the floors. Your house is adorable.
We're kind of taking the learn-as-you-go approach to home repairs and started in a low-profile room to get our feet wet. We made some mistakes in our guest room and felt more confident moving forward to the living room and kitchen.
If you find a good sage green, would you share? We're now 0 for 2 in green paints
Adorable home with a ton of potenital. Love how Dill is sitting by the huge baby gate!
