Ever watch the show 'Hoarders'?
I'd heard of it, but never saw it for myself until Friday night. We stopped while flipping channels, and I was fascinated. I don't understand how these people can even get ready in the mornings or make meals, etc.
I suddenly don't feel so badly about our basement and attic- yikes.
Re: Ever watch the show 'Hoarders'?
I have seen a few episodes. It's shocking that there are people out there like that. Some of them get help and change their ways, others get help but can't come to terms with things and loose family/friends/bf/gf over it.
Did you see the episode of the lady who hasn't thrown garbage out in over a year? That was disgusting!
We watch and are entranced by it. I can't figure it out. Sure our house gets cluttered and a bit messy when there's a lot going on or whatever but NEVER to where I can't enter a room. Holy cow it's beyond what I ever imagined possible.
There's also a part of me that thinks it really isn't a sickness itself but that there's an underlying trauma that needs to be fixed. Much of the clutter is garbage (literally garbage) so I don't get the attachment to it. Part of me thinks it was just laziness/busy-ness that got out of control and fueled by something else.
My grandmother had some rooms that were chuck full of stuff before she passed and it was just because she didn't want to go through it all. But those rooms definitely mimicked some on this show (minus the dead cats and bags of garbage).
Like other PP - I think this show is incredibly fascinating, but I dont understand the attachment to some of the things they have... in some cases, I do think there is a real psychological issue.. in other cases though, I just think its laziness
But I was watching one on A&E th other day, that hypothesized that hoarding is a genetic condition and can be hereditary!
I've watched the show before. It's so fascinating to watch. My grandmother was a hoarder, didn't throw things away(even a couch that had been burned in a fire 30yrs before her passing). My parents had to clean out a path into the house at one point so an ambulance could come in to treat my grandfather who had fallen and hurt his back. It is really hard I def knew my grandmother had OCD issues from a relatively young age.
It's so hard to understand, but coming into adulthood and having my own anxiety issues(closely related to OCD which is an anxiety disorder) I am starting to understand. However, I don't think I could every fully understand how people can be attached to things like a tissue or a pizza box their dinnre came in. But I can understand the feelings they get, and the trying to maintain control over their environment in trying to keep things.
But wow some of those people it is really hard to watch because they just dont' want to get help and don't want to change.
