Woooooooooooot!

Hi girls! Just coming up for some air. I am hoping by the end of the month I will be back to my normal nesting....We shall see. I miss you all and pop on a tiny bit a couple times a week now instead of numerous times a day.

ANYWAY, HUGE NEWS!!!

DH and I are going to MAUI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so so so sooooo excited! Neither of us have ever been and this is kinda our honeymoon, we got to take a 2 day mini-moon to Sedona but nothing huge or long or TROPICAL!

DH's parents have time share points that they will lose at the end of the year, so they are letting us take them! So our hotel room at the Hyatt is all paid for, just gotta pay for plan tix and food!!!

Anyone ever been? Any MUST do's???

We go the last week of August for 6 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Woooooooooooot!

  • Must do: Sit on beach while drinking fruity boozy drinks.

Sorry, I haven't been but this would be at the top of my list!

  • That is friggin' AWESOME!!! Yah you!!!Yes

and I second Cassie... that's what I would do!  We should make up some drinks... hm. (ok, nevermind... I'm bad at that-I can make up words for Scrabble, though!)

Was wonderin' where you'd been... been pretty calm here... (although there was an interesting thing yesterday w two boards... and a peeing toddler... )

  • AUGH!  That's awesome.  I am so jealous!

I have never been either...but second the fruity boozy notion.

  • Nice!! My sister loved the volcano hike and helicopter ride, I've never been. I would totally be a nerd and go do the LOST tour Cool have fun!
  • Wait....they have a lost tour!?!!?!?!?
  • That's so exciting!!

The LOST tour is on Oahu.  I've already told my sister I want to do that when we go visit this summer.

One of my friends went to Maui in high school and her favorite activity was snorkeling with sea turtles.

  • My sister lives on Maui, its my favorite place!!!!  The zip line is awesome, do that.  Also parasail, go together though.  You can go individually or tandem, the tandem is amazing.  Just you and DH and not a single sound other than the two of you, its surreal.  The Maui Ocean Center is really cool, so is the drive to Hana.  It takes all day, but has some really great stops, little trails along the way.  Sunset catamaran.  Oh, snorkle cruise!!!  If you can get one that goes to Molokini or Lanai, those are the best.  I took one to Lanai and there were tons of dolphins and little baby dolphins.

Where are you staying?  What town?  Some of my favorite places are the Hula Grill on Ka'anapali beach for lunch, Lelanis (across the way), Kimos on Front St is good too.  Kimo's has super yummy Hula Pie, a must have! Old Lahaina Luau is the best luau in all of Hawaii (rated that way), but you have to book in advance, they sell out.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.  I haven't been since we got married, but I used to go a couple of times a year.

  • Also, a travel tip:  US Airways usually has non stop flights from PHX to OGG, if you can, get on one of those flights.  IMO it can be a huge pain in the rear to switch planes in Honolulu, totally worth the extra money for a direct flight.

If your hotel has a fridge, that can be a huge money saver.  I know that this isn't news to any traveler, but the last time DH and I went we just got things for breakfast like muffins and juice to keep in the room, and bought some stuff to make sandwiches and other snacks.  I brought a little collapsable cooler with us, so we would make lunches, pack em on ice, and take our little cooler out on our daily adventures with us.  Of course there are days when you will want to have lunch out, but everyday does get pricey. We also did this on days that we just went to the beach.  I would go to ABC store, get juice and vodka or rum and make us drinks for the day for a fraction of the cost of ordering them. I wouild just rather spend money on adventures than drinks and food!

  • So exciting about your Maui vacay!  I went to Maui when I was 14 and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go back.  Have tons of fun!

The one thing I would say to see is the volcano.  Don't remember what it is called or where it is on the island but it was awesome and worth seeing.

  • Wooot!!! How awesome and exciting!! And totally jealous :-). I've never been so I don't have any tips, other than to have yummy drinks and have a great time!
  • That is awesome! Is Maui where you can do the dolphin swim??? I want to do that!

  • I'm so jealous!  I've never been to Maui but have been to Kauai and thought it was absolute paradise.  I did a helicopter tour and loved it. All my pictures came out looking like postcards the scenery was so beautiful. I'm sure they have those in Maui as well.

  • Oh that's so exciting!! Way to go IL's for giving you their points =D. I've never been but really want to go within the next 3 years. I second Rachel with swimming with dolphins if you can -- that's on my bucket list.
  • I have never been but want to say I hate you!! JK  That sounds awesome.

  • I have nothing of value to add but I just wanted you to know my jealousy knows no bounds for you guys and this trip.
  • Thanks for all the excitment girls!!!!!!

Dani thanks for the tips! I JUST bought our plan tickets and got the nonstop US airway flights! We do plan to do some hotel lunch making. We are staying at the Hyatt http://maui.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp

  • Ahhh! I am so jealous! M and I are trying to plan our 2nd trip back there. We LOVED it there for our Honeymoon. Definitely try to do the Road to Hana... We heard lots of bad things about it, but sucked it up and did it anyway and were SO glad that we did. There's a few hidden beaches there, one of them being the black sand beach and it was so worth it. We went at a slow pace and stopped often so neither of us would get car sick and it worked! Lots of gorgeous waterfalls to see, and just amazing nature all throughout the drive.

Ditto on Old Lahaina Luau, I've been to it twice (once with my family and then with Matt on our HM) and it was amazing both times. I've heard from many other people that it's the best on Maui.

There are 2 really good restaurants we liked in Lahaina, one is the Cool Cat Cafe, they have really good burgers and it's upstairs, outside so you look out over the big tree and Front Street. Our other favorite was the Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar, we had a really good breakfast there... It was delish!

  • You ARE staying on Ka'anapali Beach!  Yeay, I love it there!  Excellent snorkeling at Black Rock, and you are super close to Lahaina town (Front St).  There is a KB trolley that will take you to the end of Front St for I think like $2, and cabs getting back (if you stay later than the shuttle runs) are pretty cheap.  Of course if you have a rental car, you can drive yourself, but parking can be a bear on Front St.

Seriously, as you get closer let me know if you have any questions.  If I don't know the answer, I can always ask my sister she has lived there for I think 11 years now.

    PS score on the tickets!!!!
