Fire - need to help family

One of Art's employees apartment burned down this past week.  They lost everything.  The guy was at work, the wife and little girl were visiting family during the day.  Luckily no one was home. They have a 3 yr old little girl and his wife is pregnant.  The little girl came home and said dad why are all my toys outside?  How incredibly sad!!!!

We are going to give them a tv and other extra house hold stuff.  We are going to buy the little girl some clothes this weekend.  I told Art we should buy her a toy too.  I was thinking maybe we could hold a benefit for them or something.  Any ideas?

Re: Fire - need to help family

  • What size is his wife? I have some Maternity clothes packed up that I could send out to you.

  • Oh geez!  I hope they had renter's insurance and will be able to re-buy what they need eventually.  Still horrible, though.  :(  I'd say clothes for the daughter and a toy would make her day.  My neighbor's house burned down when I was 12-ish and I gave their kids some of my old toys.  YEARS later one of the kids found me on FB and told me that he still has the stuffed owl I gave him and it's not his son's favorite toy.  This was almost 15 years ago and he held onto that owl that long.

That's very nice of you!!! I'm trying to find out her size.
  • omgosh, this stirs up memories. Watching my sister, bil and nieces and nephews watch their house burn then rummage thru for anything they could salvage was absolutely heart breaking. The local firestation held a spaghetti dinner to benefit them. They had a chinese and a silent auction there also. They were very close with the fire station thats why they did it I believe. But maybe something like that? Or even talk to churches about holding a dinner benefit? Or a clothes drive? Or even a baby shower for the wife since I'm assuming everything she had baby related is gone also.

  • I love Tammy's ideas. Also, does Art belong to the American Legion? Those guys would be a great help I bet!! Oh man this is so sad. I wish we lived closer I would bring over all Dexter's toys that he doesn't play with. Soooooo sad. Prayers to them!
