Girls and boys names of 2010

Re: Girls and boys names of 2010

  • Wow, Emma has fallen to 45!  Not that I care what other people name their kids, but I'm glad it's not #1 this year like it has been in the past.  I'm also happy to see Elizabeth making a resurgence!

Finn is #2 for boys???  It's never even made it on a list before, I wonder what changed this year.  Great, DH and I thought we'd be a little different with that name if we have a boy.

You know, after thinking about . . . I'm not sure how much I trust this list. It's from an internet site about names and I think parents who want to name their kid something more unique would be more likely to seek out such a site - to try it out on other people, see what people think about middle names, etc. So I wouldn't worry too much. My cousin name his baby Finn (cutest baby ever, he has a cleft chin omg) and even in Boston people were saying it was great, but unique name.

  • F**k F**k F**K!!!!!

Our girl names (other than the not-so-favored-by-DH "Joanie") are position #3, similar to #32, and #40.  Boy names are #14 and #20.

I WILL NOT DO THAT TO MY KID!

Jennifer was #1 for at least 5 years surrounding 1982.  I hated being one of a dozen with that name in my HS class.

We've got to find something not in the top 50 at least.  Ugh!  I can't even use the family names of Evelyn, Charlotte, and Lydia (my grandma and her sisters).  CRAP!

My dead father's name is #20.  NOT FAIR!

  • AHH! I didn't mean to cause baby name panic! Honestly, I bet you $50 that when the official list from the government comes out in a year this will be proved entirely wrong!
  • It's a cool list.

For those of you a little freaked...just check out the Social Security site for the 2009 list.  It doesn't change very much from year to year...but over time you can see trends.

  • 2008 is! And it looks like you can check by state - pretty cool! And I think 2009 will be out by May.
  • I'm just glad that none of our names are on there. =)

I'll see if I can find it, but there's a website where you can enter your zipcode and it lists popular names of babies born at hospitals near you.  It was really interesting.  I put in Williamsburg and Virginia Beach and none of our name choices were anywhere near being popular.  I'm thinking some of these names are going to be more popular in more populated places like NYC and LA.

  • My name has never been in the top 50.  I'm sure other spellings of my nickname have (Sherry, Sherri, etc) but never my full first name.  That I know of anyway.
  • Baby girl's name isnt on there, but a version of it is number 10, and her middle name is #21.  Oh well.  They are family names, and I already told my grandma we are naming her after her, can't change it now!
