Q from a Boston Marathon spectator

Hi Ladies, I am coming to Boston this weekend to cheer on my sister while she runs the marathon.  I have absolutely NO IDEA where to go!  Any ideas or tips?  I would like to park my butt somewhere along the route and then make my way into Boston to meet my sister at the Finish.  Is my best bet to take the MBTA?  Any ideas where I'll find parking along the route that is close to a train stop so I can leave my car and take the train in to the finish?

Also, this is my first time watching a marathon- I see on YouTube lots of people with chairs, etc along less-crowded roads.  Any ideas where I can do this?  I'd love to bring a chair that I could throw back in my car before hopping on the train.  To clarify: Can you think of a good vantage point where I can park for the day and is also near a train station?

This website should have all the information that you need about vantage points along the route.

    GL!

  • Hmm, heartbreak hill in Newton might be good, but crowded.  If you want to plop down, you might want to just pick a random spot along the route out in the suburbs.  It is fun but not as crazy!

Definitely take the T into Copley or Arlington (if they are open).  The whole area is a complete madhouse!  You could maybe park at Riverside and take the T in from there.

     Have fun!!

Copley station is shut down since that's where the race ends. Maybe when you come in, get off at Kenmore and watch the runners go right by the station. It'll be crazy, but I'm sure the whole city will be! Especially since there's a Red Sox game that afternoon too.

    Have fun!

  • I like to sit in cleveland circle.  thats a big turning point for the racers: the last significant "turn" in the race, as many believe.

It's also a nice slight downhill after heartbreak hill so the racers' spirits lift a bit.

enjoy!  theres nothing quite like the boston marathon!
