Video of Palin co-opting Albright

I know it's been mentioned, but the Indecision 2008 blog has the video of Sarah Palin mis-quoting Madeleine Albright. If she thinks women should vote for her on this basis, why isn't she out there campaigning for Democratic women who are running for Congress? Why wasn't she supporting Hillary Clinton during the primaries?

Also, I wonder if any people who thought Barack Obama was disrespectful for calling John McCain by his first name also feel the same way about Sarah Palin also referring to Madeleine Albright by her first name also. But then, she also refers to Obama by his first name also, and I've never heard a peep about that also.

This post brought to you by the word "also."

    This made me LOL

I dont understand why the hell she said that (esp. with the mis-quote). Sorry Palin, I guess I am going to hell becuase there is no way in god's green earth that I am voting for you just because you have a vagina.

  • I can't watch the video from work, but saw something about this on the election board.  I guess because of the use of the word support, I can sort of understand why people are perceiving this as her demanding the female vote, but I really don't think that's how she intended it.

I suspect it's a reaction to a lot of nastiness thrown at her by women who are over the top in their attacks - Sandra Bernhard comes to mind as an example.

The first problem is that she misquoted Albright. Palin said "support," but Albright said "help." I think it's pretty clear that Palin wanted to imply that women should be politically supporting her. The second problem is that Albright didn't say that in a political context. Considering the MPC's bemoaning of "gotcha journalism" and taking statements out of context, this is particularly egregious.

Even if she was talking about SOME women being over the top in their attacks, it's disingenuous for her to say that without recognizing the women's groups who, while not supporting her candidacy, are speaking out against sexist treatment. Plus, wasn't Palin the one who criticized Hillary Clinton for whining during the primaries? Where was her support of a woman then?

  • Does anyone know if the statement was made at the event Palin had in which the NOW director in LA was endorsing her?   Because that would at least give the quote some context, as opposed to just making such a statement randomly during a stump speech.

A current local director of NOW endorsed Palin? Do you have a cite for this?

  • It was on drudge last night but isn't there now.  Let me search.
  • LMW - I found the source - http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/10/la-now-prez-on.html

and also started a new thread about it.
