Singing the praises of...
pet insurance! It's come in handy since my dog seems to be prone to major illness every couple of years.
She was diagnosed with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis at the emergency clinic at 1 am a couple of nights ago after she kept vomiting and started having bloody diarrhea. The next day, the vet recommended a 24-hr IV and lots of tests/bloodwork. Grand total for little Jazzy's care over the past few days? $942. I think I'll get at least 2/3 of this back through pet insurance.
And, in case you're wondering, Jasmine is 75% back to her old happy energetic self...though is still a little lethargic. If you have 'em handy, please send T&P that she continues to feel better.

Do you mind me asking how much (range) you pay every month?
I hope she continues toward a quick mend!

It's $25 a month. It definitely adds up and may not be worth it for a healthy pup, but for me, it's paid for itself over the past 4 years since there have been 3 times when I've shelled out about $1K for vet bills.
Thanks for the well wishes for Jazzy! In return, here's a pic of her as a younger pup.
Yay for a picture! That's not to bad since it has paid for itself. This is something I wouldn't do with my dog since thankfully the only vet bills are her shots and regular checkups. I think if I had a dog prone to health issues this would be a smart choice.

Do you mind if I ask how old Jazzy is?
Just asking bc I've considered pet insurance for our dog once he gets older. He's 4 now and in great health, but a few years from now it might be nice to have a little backup plan.
Here's Jack since it was good to put a face to your dogs name.

Junebug - Your little Jack is adorable! Jasmine is 5 years old. I got pet insurance when she was 1 when she started having some sensitive tummy issues. Because of that, gastritis is excluded from her policy so that's something to think about. They'll most likely look to see if your dog has had any issues and classify it as a pre-existing condition. My husband thinks there's a need for dog health care reform.
Lark - We use VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance). They have a website at petinsurance.com where you can get quotes. $40/month for each cat is a lot!
