Okay, so not really, but we went there this past weekend for my cousin's wedding (I have lots of family there) and we had a great time. It was hot (duh- it's Arizona) but it was really pretty out there and I had some family members trying to convince DH that we should totally move out there because of the super CHEAP houses and the fact that they could hook him up with a job (2 of my cousins own their own companies). I've never even considered it (because well, I LOVE California) but DH was actually all about it, I was surprised. I've known a few people who've moved out there and moved back within a year or so because of the fluctuating housing market and lack of jobs, but I was taken back by the actual possibility of it. I mean, we saw some BEAUTIFUL houses selling for 1/4th of what they go for around here, so it's hard to NOT consider it because we won't be able to afford a home here for a WHILE, but we can realistically buy one there within the next year or two with what we have saved.
(This post was gonna be longer but boss lady showed up, so I'm posting now)
Re: Man, I'm moving to Arizona!
I used to live in Pasadena (your neck of the woods) and my weekend trips to AZ totally convinced me to move here too. I would say that if you were going to, and have a job lined up, this is the time to do it. The housing market isn't so much "fluctuating" anymore as it has completely tanked (good time to buy!). Plus, you literally came at the best time of the year. I don't mind the summers too much, but when it is over 110 for literally MONTHS at a time, it can wear on your nerves. Where were you at out here?
I love living in AZ. There is a lot that I miss about CA, but I really feel like life came together for me out here. MOVE!!!!
Yeah, those months of 110 degrees = the reason why I'm so glad we're moving to WA!
It's not a bad state to live at all, you just must be sure you can deal with the heat.
Not that this is relevant for you now, but if you plan on having kids, take the AZ education system into account when planning that far ahead (very conservative).
Dani- We were in the West Valley (Phoenix/Surprise/Glendale) area. I mean, it's just an idea that we are running away with in theory but you girls making it sound like we should just go for it......haha.
Lore- I'm actually a big fan of a conservative educational system, so I guess that's another good thing AZ has going for it. I'm a big McCain supporter as well.
I actually hate the heat, but even though I grew up in Pasadena, I used to spend my summers near Bakersfield, CA where it was over 100 degrees every. freaking. day. and somehow I think that having a beautiful house with central AC and a pool will help me cope.
Like I said, this is just all a crazy idea right now, but everyone I've spoken to thinks we should do it. Also- just for fun, I went on Craigslist and searched for a job exactly like the one I have now (front office for an orthodontic practice) and the first listing that came up was for that exact position and they need a bi-lingual person w/experience......I thought that was a crazy coincidence and another "sign".
We'll see. Thanks for your input ladies!
We drove straight to church on Saturday to make it in time for the wedding, then we grabbed a bite to eat, checked in to our hotel, and got ready for the reception that didn't end until midnight. We left Sunday morning around 9am so that we could make a pit-stop at our favorite casino on the way back. It was a quick trip, I wish I could've met up with one or all of you AZ gals too, sorry!
I would do it...
If my whole family wasn't in North County San Diego, I'd go. I like being at arm's length from them, but not further. You can have such a nice life there for not much money!
I keep telling myself I don't wanna leave the beach...but ask me about the last time I went...can't remember.
It's an adventure - and you'd already have friends and family there. Go for it!
In that case, you should totally consider it for real! I think when things fall into place like that, you should pay attention...
