POLL: Shorts or Jeans?

So assuming that the volcano stops spewing ash into the air and stops completely jacking up air traffic DH and I are heading to Europe in a couple weeks.  But, I'm at a loss of what to pack.  It looks like highs will be in the 60s to mid-70s and lows in the mid-50s.  We're heading to Frankfurt, Paris, Athens, Venice, and a few Greek Islands if that helps since I know being inland vs. coastal can make a difference as can humidity (though, I think it's too early for that...)

Is this jeans weather during the daytime or shorts?  WDYT?  Definitely think a light jacket is needed for early AM and night temperatures...

  • Why no Capris option?

  • Very observant.  Didn't put that as an option b/c I was planning on taking a couple of capris anyway :)

  • No matter how warm it gets, I'd be reluctant to wear shorts in European cities - you'll stand out as unfashionable.  They're fine when you're hiking or at the beach, but I wouldn't wear them in a metropolitian area.  I'd wear either nice jeans, khakis, or skirts.

Sounds like a great trip. Have fun!

  • I would do mostly capri pants and throw in one pair of shorts and one of jeans.  Pick something you can wear a few times if need be.  Our tropical cruise in Jan was so miserably cold that I wore my jeans most of the time.

Oh-and maybe something conservative too (non denim pants or skirts) if you plan on going to churches.  Some won't let you in if you're wearing shorts or jeans.  It might be more of an issue in Rome/Italy though.  But maybe you already thought of that!

  • I wouldn't wear shorts either unless it's super warm in Greece.  You stick out like a sore thumb in Europe when you wear shorts.

this. I don't wear capris so I wouldn't take those either. Pants or skirts.

  • Skirts, dresses (maxi), jeans, capris. I wouldn't wear shorts.  Also take many top layers, cardigans, jackets, etc.  I had to reply since my vote wasn't listed :)
  • I would love to hear reviews of your time in Greece!!! I am going there the last week of June and would love to here what you liked and didn't like or things to do. TIA!

Sure thing.  We'll be back mid-May so give me a couple weeks then page me if you don't hear back in case I forget!

  • Europe tends to be a little chilly in the late spring. I went in June and early july to france and it  ranged from wearing jeans most of the time and only needing skirts toward the south of France. Layers work the best - it can get a little warm during the day but the nights tend to be chilly.
  • Your trip sounds Amazing! Are you taking a cruise?
