Denied Insurance

I can't seem to find homeowners insurance unless I lie about J's dog living with us.  He's a mix with some (American?) Staffordshire Terrier in him, so he's on the vicious, high-liability dog list.  Confused  He's all bark, this one.

What did or would you do?

Re: Denied Insurance

  • Ah, the fun of shopping for HOI. We called 6 or 7 places, and were always asked what breed of dogs we have. Some even specifically asked if it was a pit bull, staffordshire, chow, etc.  I know it's fraud, but I have a co worker in the same boat as you, and her stafforshire terrier is now a lab/boxer mix. But, you may want to go a bit further and get a new vet to keep up with the new breed your dog has become.  Or, you could just say you do not have a dog.

  • I can print out paperwork for you if you need it showing that he is a "boxer mix."

Thats what I did when I had my pit bull . . . and honestly, without a DNA test theres no way for them to argue.

Ooh, Katie!  That would be awesome.  (Would you get in trouble?)  Actually, if we said he was a Corgi mix, it might be more believable.  Everyone thinks he's a weirdo Corgi because he has little legs and big ears.  Let me see if I have a pic.

  • Katie for the rescue!

It really po's me when insurance does this.  It should instead ask: Human - "Good owner or bad owner?"  I've seen a nasty toy poodle go apesh!t and do serious damage because its owner was a POS.

  • Woah, that sucks.

I would just say he is some sort of Mutt.....

  • Aria, we do this for most of our clients with pits.  Email me a pic and I'll print out some paperwork. . . . In fact, email me your address and his vaccine info.  I'll just pop out a vaccine history for you so it is easy to believe.

    Go Katie!

I totally agree with you, Rachel.  It makes me so sad.  I can't believe companies can do this.  Our CPA told us that friends' of his had to get new insurance because their company wanted to raise their premiums by $1000+ because they had a LAB!  Yes, a lab!  Can you believe it?  The company's reasoning was that it's a big dog so it could be trouble.  Ugh, makes me so mad.
