How is this for a sad state of affairs

When we were shopping on Saturday we drove the hour or so into town to do it.  We planned on being gone all day.  At lunch time we thought we would hit up to food court at the mall.   We checked every single restaurant in the food court.  Nobody had anything that would be ok for DD.  I had brought snacks but no meal food.  So we checked out the sit down restaurant in the mall.  They had nothing that wasn't deep fried.  Even their kids menu was not appropriate.

This mall brags about being kid/baby friendly.  We love this mall. This is the first time we have gone since DD has been eating normal food.  Never thought it would be an issue to find something for her to eat there. Not to mention it's the only mall I have been to where the food court didn't have a highchair or two in it.  We ended up leaving the mall and going down the street to McDonalds so she could get a grilled cheese and package apple slices.

I think it's a pretty sorry state of affairs when McDonalds is the only restaurant in the area that offers fruit or veggies as a side in a kids meal.

Re: How is this for a sad state of affairs

  • To quote Metallica, it is "sad but true". Packaged, processed foods have become the norm. It is disgusting that Cheetos are cheaper than organic apples and that fresh foods take up such a small section of the grocery store.

When I was looking at daycares for E, we went through one and glanced at the menu. We mentioned that we'd like to bring in organic meat for him to eat while he was there. The woman gave us a hard time about it. This, coming from a place that served "fried baloney sandwiches" once every three weeks. Disgusting!

  • Very sad.  Sadder that McDonald's was the healthy alternative :(
    Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • That's pretty damn bad.
  • I am actually trying to think if there is even a place in any food court that is baby friendly for food. Maybe Mr. Sub?
  • I hate food courts, but ours does have a sushi place and a Middle Eastern place that I could use for food for E.
