I'm stranded, help.

I grew up in Cincinnati, but my H and I live in Switzerland.  I came home two weeks ago to see my parents and now I am stuck because of the ash cloud.  All of my friends have jobs and are not available to keep me occupied, so I pretty much just sat in my parent's house all day.

Can you think of any fun little day trips that I could take?  I know that there are a few wineries in SW Indiana and in the Greater Cincinnati area (I think I remember hearing about one in Hillsboro?) that I have never checked out.  Any ideas?

ETA: I was born and raised in the area, so I've been to pretty much all of the museums and major attractions in Cincinnati.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.  I don't think I can take another day of just sitting by myself in my parent's house.

  • You could go to Indy or Columbus.  As for wineries, I can think of Vinkolet in Colerain Township and Henke in Westwood.  They're not big places though.  Besides, I like beer & liqour better!  There are a few burbon distilleries in KY.  There's a small Amish area in Adams County, a larger one north east of Columbus.  The art musuem is free if you want to stay local.

  • Huber's down across the border from louisville in Indiana has an AWESOME winery and tasting room. Their Vignoles wine is amazing.
  • Thanks for the recommendations!
  • If you like modern architecture you could go to Columbus, Indiana. Then brown county has a couple of winerys. I have been to Oliver Winery and it was really pretty.
  • I can give you recs on bourbon distilleries in KY if you are interested in that.  There are also a lot of wineries down around Lexington, KY.  It's an hour & a half or so from Cinci, not bad for a day trip.  Let me know, you can PM me or respond on here...whichever you prefer.
