...birth story and pics

Shortish birth story version:

My water broke at 3am (after my OB had left town for a weekend in Boston) with two little gushes. We got ready and headed to the hospital where I did early labor walking the halls for 15 hours. Things weren't going fast enough and they were starting to worry about infection, so we had to start a little Pitocin...but just a whiff of the stuff sent me into full-on active labor with contractions coming hard and fast. I was on my hands and knees or leaning over most of the time with DH putting pressure on my hips. Two hours later it was getting hard and I started asking questions about epidurals.

The nurses and alternate OB (who I'm secretly really, really glad delivered us instead) knew we were trying for a natural birth so they asked me to try holding out for another hour...I was 4cm dialated. 20 minutes later the contractions were one after the other but I was getting the urge to push...and DD was having a little bit of trouble. I had gone to 8cm in that short amount of time...and they called my OB back to tell him he better get back to the hospital!!

The OB was pulling into the parking lot as I was fighting the urge to push...and failing. So they let me get started while he got into scrubs. It really did feel good to push. They flipped me over...and after 25 minutes of good hard pushing...Kayla Quinn was born at 9:12pm on 4/17.  7lbs 2oz...and 19.5" long. I had a second degree tear that I'm told is pretty superficial. Sooooo in love with our little girl :)
