What do you order at a Mexican restaurant?

This is a random question! My friend from college (and one of my BM) is coming into to town tonight. I haven't got to see her since the wedding even though we don't like that far apart. We are going to this new Mexican place in town. Now, I looove Mexican food, but I always, always order the same thing (grilled chicken with rice). So, help a sister out. What do you like to order?

Usually tacos.

I did try beef enchiladas for the first time last month, and that was decent.

Always the Chicken Quesadilla Rellena (and we eat Mexican at least once a week!)...it is a regular quesadilla with cheese and pulled chicken, but it also has refried beans, tomatoes, and peppers inside it. It is amazing!!

I almost always order chicken fajitas so long as I can share them with somebody. If there is no one to share with then I get some sort of a chicken burrito or enchilada. I prefer the grilled chicken to the shredded chicken.

Where are you located, again?

Being from San Diego and having friends in Texas, I'm verrrrrry particular about my Mexican food (especially since what the rest of the country tries to pass off as Mexican food...well, it is just wrong.). So I'm offering these suggestions from a very spoiled pallate:

Tamales - any kind, but veggie & green chili are my favorite.

Fajitas - usually carne asade, but since I've been doing the vegetarian thing for the past two months, it's been veggie or potato

Chili Relleno - yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mexican food is my absolute favorite.

Whatever I order has to include guacamole or avocados- my favorite food. If not, I'll order a side of guac.

I like grilled chicken quesadillas with lots of veggies, tamales, enchiladas. I love ceviche. I love carne asada. I prefer salsa verde to dark chipotle salsas and I don't like mole. I prefer corn tortillas to flour.

A good friend of mine is part Mexican and grew up in El Paso, TX. She makes the most amazing chicken enchiladas! She's also got me hooked on the taquitos at a local restuarant.

This! I grew up in Texas and now live in San Diego and feel like I'm a Mexican food snob. Unfortunately, you probably won't get great Mexican food where you are, but you can't go wrong with a few things: chicken quesadilla, cheese enchiladas, or fajitas. I've had some bad tamales and chile rellenos in different parts of the country, so I might be hesitant to order either of those for fear that you might not like them. Have fun!

I don't eat Mexican out much since I'd prefer to cook it myself, but for me, the benchmark meal that decides whether or not I'd go back somewhere is Carne Guisada. It's beef tips in a gravy that is awesome when done right.

I usually go with tacos, burritos or enchiladas. One restaurant by us has taquitos too that are pretty good. As you can tell, I am not an adventurous Mexican food eater either.

I have the spoiled by good Mexican food problem too -- too many relatives in Texas and my hometown has too many Mexicans who knew how to cook fantastic food. The restaurants around here are terrible. Which is why I always order fajitas -- its generally safe. I'm assuming the same would be true in WVa.

I usually go with Chicken Enchiladas or Chicken Fajitas.

Chile Rellenos are also yumm (pepper stuffed with cheese, ground beef, etc)

Yep, I am in WV. But, the people who run the restaurant are actually Mexican. It isn't a chain or anything. I just always get the same thing and want to branch out a bit, so thanks for all the ideas, girls!

mmmmmm, chimichangas baby! I always get the beef. Freaking insane!

Also, I MUST have sopapillas or fried ice cream for desert.
