And it's not ya'll but y'all. At least this how this southerner always thought it was. Now I am off to google to see if I've been wrong all my life!
You're right. I know people (including some Southerners) who spell it "ya'll," but it doesn't make any sense. It's a contraction of "you" and "all." Why the F would you put the apostrophe in the middle of the "all" part of it? This has always annoyed me far more than it really should.
The mirriam-webster online dicitonary showed both ways are acceptable contractions of you all. I learned something new today but since old habits die hard it is still going to be y'all for me!
I also learned there was a magazine called Y'all - The Magazine of Southern People.
Funny! I'm surprised we haven't had any Obama, McCain, Biden or Palin trolls before now, actually.
And I'm with meganne. It's "y'all". The apostrophe is used to indicate missing letters (ie the "ou" from "you"), so it should go after the Y and before the ALL. Putting it in the middle of the word "all" makes no sense.
I have a theory, and it's pretty flimsy. Based on the wedding date, it may be someone on my local who also posts on E08 occasionally. I noticed the wedding date because it's the same as mine, and it's unusual. Also, this person had made up a stellar AE in the past on my local, so I know she's capable.
But I don't want to out her just yet.

Did you pick that day for any particular reason? For me, it was 3 years to day that we'd met, I wasn't even aware of the mathematical significance.
Well, I guess I gotta go easy on you now, since we are "date twins."
I'm a 9/15/07 bride too. Tef I can't believe that after a year of posting together we never knew this about each other. And we live so close to each other!!
