NC question

Hello! I am hoping you ladies can help me. DH and I are going to NC this summer. He is from there and his family is still there, but I have never been. He told me to find things that I would want to do, but I haven't had much luck looking on the internet. We are willing to drive and pretty much go anywhere, what are some things that you would suggest that we do or see?

Thanks!

Re: NC question

  • What area are you coming to? Our state is bigger than it appears, and can take a long time to go from one end to the other :-)
  • His family lives in Charlotte. We will be there for at least 10 days, if not more.

  • You could come see me! I'm in Meck. county! haha jk!

Well... you're only about 2 hours to Asheville and all the fun goodness there (Biltmore House... J Crew outlet.. haha)

You're about 3.5-4 hours to Wilmington... lots of beach and touristy stuff

Charlotte has lots to offer too.... good shopping... great food... ect.

What kind of stuff are you interested in? That might give people a bit better idea what you're looking to take in....

  • I am up for anything. I really don't know much (or anything) about NC. We do love to eat, and I love just to drive and see new things. I would love to sight see, and we want to go somewhere romantic/fun for a night or two.

  • If you're looking for a romantic get-a-way... that makes me think mountains or beach... you can get rooms in some awesome bed and breakfasts in downtown Wilmington... they are walking distance to all kinds of shops and restaurants and on the river front which is really pretty. Or you can always get a nice little cottage in the mountains- like Blowing Rock or Asheville.

Both Wilmington and Asheville have great restaurants and scenic areas.  The downtown Wilmington area is cute with nice restaurants, the riverfront and shops.  The beaches near Wilmington are nice to visit, there's an old fort near it (Ft. Fisher), and there is a lake area you might like walking around (there are some ugly areas of town but the rest makes up for it).  Asheville has a nice downtown area, I wish I'd been able to spend more time in it.

  • Thanks for the help! :)

  • I would check out Asheville.

If you like wine there are also some good vineyards in NC. The restaurant at Shelton is really good, but I am not sure how far that is from Charlotte.

  • Oh - and one more thing, if you don't like hot, humid weather, Asheville will be better for you.
