visiting lake george and saratoga - need recs

Hi Ladies, I'm spending one day in Lake George and one day in Sarasota.  What do you recommend to see/do? DS is 18 months and is not really into amusement parks or the zoo.  Hiking is also out because he is too little.  I love to shop, go to restaurants, and we would love to catch in some beautiful scenery.  Thanks so much for your recommendations!! (p.s. I assume this is the best board...I wasn't sure if it was considered to be "upstate" or Hudson Valley")

Re: visiting lake george and saratoga - need recs

  • Hey! I assume you mean Saratoga? There are outlets in Lake George, and Saratoga's downtown has adorable shops. There are also nice parks.

  • HA!  oops, i meant saratoga.  Thanks!
  • Lake George

    • Lake George Steamboat Company - they have cruises out on the lake, including brunch cruises and whatnot.  I'm not sure if they're open for the season yet, but they might be.
    • Mini golf everywhere
    • Restaurants:
      • Fredericks (Bolton Landing)
      • The Boathouse
      • Martha's - across from Great Escape, just ice cream (GOOD ice cream!)
      • Suttons

Glens Falls (in between Saratoga and Lake George, has great little restaurants!  All of these are in downtown GF)  - These are some of my favorite restaurants.

    • Siam Thai Sushi
    • Mikado (Japanese Hibachi)
    • Rock Hill Bakehouse (AMAZING!)
    • The Gourmet Cafe (On the weekends they have an AMAZING unlimited make your own pasta bar  - like an omelet station, but with pasta.  SOOOOOO GOOD!)
    • Amiee's Dinner and a Movie
    • Davidson Brothers (a pub and brewery)

South Glens Falls (just on the other side of the bridge with GF)

    • Luisa's (delicious, and HUGE portions.  You WILL have leftovers)
    • Mr. Bill's - a little car hop grill and ice cream place - one of my family's favorites.  It's just around the corner from the house I grew up in.

    Saratoga

    • Wheatfields
    • Four Seasons (natural foods)
    • Stadium Cafe
    • Olde Bryan Inn (all our work outings go here)
    • Pretty much anything in the downtown area is good

Random miscellaneous stuff... (I'm just copying this from our OOT wedding guest information...)

  • We went to Lake George and the Adirondacks in July 2007 and had a blast! I have some pictures from the trip in my blog (siggy). Just go to "Living Life" and then "Our Marriage" and you'll see the "Vacations" section. Hope they help - we had so much fun in Lake George! Make sure you rent one of those buggies you'll see in the picture and go on the steamboat. There is definitely alot of shops and restaurants that are family-friendly right in the little village.
