Getting rid of English Ivy? Other plants to plant?

Hello ladies,

How do you get rid of English Ivy? (I asked at my local HomeDepot and Lowe's and they were useless).

I've done some digging up, but am trying to avoid this as the area is also covered in poison ivy. I don't like to use chemicals, but I haven't found any other viable alternatives.

Also, anything I could plant that would kill the ivy or at least not let it spread?

Thanks!

  • I've read that straight vinegar will kill poison ivy eventually but it will probably take many repeated applications since its a woody plant.

  • unfortunately, nothing except digging it up.  I HATE ivy and we have tons of it.

  • We have loads of ivy too and are working on tearing it all out.  It's hard even when you start digging it out though.

Good luck!  I'll cross my fingers for the both of us.
