This morning I got a FB message from my friend's boyfriend.
"Hey Amy. I was wondering if you could help me come up with engagement proposal ideas for Les?"
So, if you were me, what kind of ideas have you experienced or seen that you really liked that you would recommend to this guy?

Re: Helping with a proposal
hmm...what is the couple like?
quiet/reserved, crazy, adventurous, silly, athletic, cutesy/romantic, etc?
They're both PhD Psych students. They enjoy Starbucks, their dog Marley, studying, watching news/documentary programs, and dancing.
I would say a public proposal would not be them.

A co-worker's now husband took her on a picnic (for their anniversary) and gave her a card. The inside said something about a wife and he had written below it "would you?" and when she looked up he was on one knee.
Another co-worker was flown to Paris for the weekend because he wanted to take her to dinner and proposed in front of the Eiffel Tower. Yeah. Probably not realistic for most of us but it happened so throwing it out there.
DH just told me we were having date night and we were going to do whatever I wanted to do. I picked the restaurant and movie and at the end of the night he asked if I was happy. I said yes and he proposed saying he wanted to make me happy for the rest of my life.
Aww, that is so sweet!
Thanks for the thoughts. I've given him a few things to think about. We'll see which way he goes!

I've also heard of the scavenger hunt type proposal. But I think they're probably pretty predictable in terms of the gal knowing what is coming!
What if he cooked her a nice dinner at home and did something around that? Or surprised her by calling her boss and getting her a half day or even a full day and doing a little day trip or weekend get away?
I can keep coming up with ideas if you want!
He said he was thinking about dinner alone and then going out for drinks with their friends to celebrate. He said dinner at their apt is out b/c they don't really have a dining room table.
And neither work - they're both grad students. I suggested involving their dog, or doing it on their campus since they met there. I said to pick a location that holds meaning for them. She was involved in the ring selection so she knows it's coming, but he still wants to give her a surprise proposal.

"My" proposal was a surprise to both of us. We were out running errands and stopped for lunch. C made some comment about our future together and I asked him if he thought we would get married. He said yes. I said that was all the proposal I needed. We pinky swore on it.
And it seems to have worked.

Love it!
My wedding gift to him was a nice watched and I had the inside engraved "I pinky swear" with our wedding date.

My dog proposed to me. H clipped the ring in a small envelope to the dogs collar and when our dog came over to me I was all "what the ??"
One of my friends was proposed to by being sent on a scavenger hunt. Her (now ex)H basically sent her around to different locations that were special to them (first date, first kiss, etc). At each location was a long stem red rose, so she had a bouquet when she was done. The man was a wack-a-doodle, but the proposal was good.
Another friend was proposed to at a 4th of July party with her H's family. She'd just been a pillar for his family through the loss of her H's mother, it seemed right in their case to include the family which she'd become very much a part of in the process.
